THE ANGORA GOAT.
A dUpnteh from Washington says:
"Ropres-ntativ.i Hermann, of Ors
ORE.'yn' lias introduced a bill directitur
our minister to Turkey to undertake
negotiations for the purchase of J GO or
20 pure-blooded Angora goats. Ore
jon, California, Arizona and other
J parts of the United States, it Is said
I are well adapted to raising these ani
mals ana it is hoped to domesticate
them in California first."
As if U Angora tfoat has not
already been domesticated in this
country. In Dakota and Minnesota we
can show Representative Hermann
flock after flock of those nuimals; but
it is not necessary to go to such a dis

right here- in Polk county iu Oregon
we kna-.T personally of several flocks

thrive and multiply as naturally as in
their Asia Minor home. Originally,
and still gruerally, the Angor.r goat
was most highly prized for its loog
CeU j silky hair lor manulucture, out our
Oregon goat owners have found them
more serviceable and valuable as land
grubbers. When it is desired to clear
Und of underbrush a flock of those
goats are turned loos? is the patch and
iu a season or two the ground is
cleared and stripped of every twig

thoroughly as to crush out all life, aud
decomposition soon follows. Are they

CORRESPONDENCE. !
Eagle Point Nowa.
Since the much talked of extension
cf the R. R. V. R. R. to Eagle Point is
almost assured there have been many
inquiries by people in distant localities
as to where Eagle Point is, and what
its prospective advantages. To those
who mav chance to read the Mail this
information is snven.
Eagle Point is fourteen miles north
east from Medford, on Little Butte
creek, which, by the way, has som t of
the best water powers in Oregon. It
has one roller flouring mill, of large
capacity, two stores of general mer
chandise, two of confectionery, one
drug store, two physicians, two hotels,
two blacksmith shops, with wagon re
pair shops connected. It has one church
building and one school house. It
numbers about 150 inhabitants. The
surrounding country, the Butte Creek
valley contains some of tho best farm
ing aud fruit lands in the state. It is
well known that the best wher.t raised
in Rogue River valley was from Butto
creek. This we have now. After the
advent of the iron horse we will tell
more about it.
This delightful weather makes all
nature rejoice, animate and inanimate.
The visitors from a distance are re
turning to their homes. Mrs. A. G.
Johnston's father, mother and brother,
Mr. and Mrs. Adams and sou have de
parted for their home in Nebraska.
Mrs. Guerin and children, who have
been visitini? her uarents, have re
turned to Portland. Mr. Howard, of

That our school fathers builded bet
ter than they knew, has been demon
strated by the steady tide of Immigra
tion to our city since the opening of
the new public school. And it must bo
a matter of pride and satisfaction to
them to see the number who have come
here to build homes and enjoy the ad
vantages of our thorough school sys
tem, and that this, through their wis
dom and foresight, will bo tho city of
schools, intelligence and refinement.
Rejoice! O. ye men, who labor much
for little pay, that your work and hope
has ended in fruition, and this your re
ward, the grateful, heartfelt thanks of
every child who is brought under the
elevating influence of their beautiful
school home, "Inasmuch as ye have
done it unto one of my little ones ye
have dono it unto me."
Ye lads an 1 lassies, be glad that your

inaliotu Several Republican sen

nomination, have agreed to take
up Uncle Jerry at the proper time
and nominate him if they can
swing enough votes to do it. Their
argument is that Rusk is popular
with the farmers and, therefore,
would be a great vbfe-getter; that
he has a good record as a soldier,
and that he has had experience
enough in public affairs to show
that he is a man ef ability' and

Jerry, if put forward iu th con

Dear Slr:-
In rosnonat to yours of April 20th. In rrjard to
the advertising of the Royal Baking Powder Con? any I have the honor
to send you tho following resolution adopted by the Board at Its
quarterly mooting hold In Albany Feb. 11th, 1S85.
' Hesolved " That tho advert lsament of tho ftoyal Baking
Jodor Company, quoting the Stats Board of Health of Ne York as
recommending, through c-ie of its analysts. Its purity, etc. is
mlarepreoentatlon. In no case does the State Board of Health
or its representatives, eauso eueh examination to be rcade wl U
view of rooomondlng any particular produots.
Tory truly yours ,
The misrepresentation which called forth the resolution of
the State Board of Health of New York, printed above, is in keeping-
with the old tactics of the Royal Baking Powder Company.
First it manufactured a Government Chemist out of whole
cloth, and the garment was cut and made to fit Dr. Henry A.
Mott, and later poor Dr. Love.
Brought to a turn in this, tbe same company sought to use
the New York Board of Health.
It did not hesitate to send broadcast, the statement that the
New York Board of Health had endorsed and recommended the
Royal (Ammonia) Baking Towder.
It did not take the New York Board of Health very long
to assert itself on this misrepresentation as will be seen from the
toregoing letter.
These questionable methods of advertising have never
been resorted to by the Price Baking Powder Co. The old
fashioned honest way of making a pure Cream Tartar
Baking Powder is much to be preferred. No ammonia to
conceal, nothing to bolster up.
The success of Dr. Price proves honesty is the best
business policy in food produots, as in everything else,
First-class in Every Particular.
Special attention paid to Conimeriial Travelers.
