(Lebanon Auction Yard)
July 29-Aug. 2
Receipts: 1207 HD total, 680 cattle,
325 sheep, 196 goats, 6 pigs
Comment: Extreme dry conditions
are sending cattle to market early this
year; 76% of cattle were butcher cows
and bulls. If you have cows and bulls to
cull, the earlier the better. News on the
feeder cattle side of things: Now more
than ever before a proper vaccination
program for your calves will help them
bring more money. Buyers are request-
ing vaccination records on the calves.
Some buyers are taking a firm pass on
unvaccinated cattle this year. Call us
and we can share a proper vaccination
protocol. The lamb market was stronger
this week. Top lambs brought 241.00.
The goat market was weaker. The best
goats brought 275.00-310.00 by the
head.

Comments: Monday’s regular cattle
sale featured over 300 head of cattle,
with a light run of feeders and a heavy
run of cows. Slaughter cows were
higher from a week prior, with a top
price of $73.50, and an average price of
63-67 cents per pound. Slaughter bulls
were lower week over week, mostly due
to lower yielding or overly fleshy bulls
on offer this week. Bulls topped out at
89 cents per pound, with an average of
82.13 cents. Not enough feeder cattle
for a market test, though yearlings were
strong on a light test.

Fluid Milk and Cream — Western U.S.
Aug. 5
California milk production is following
seasonal patterns of decline. Some industry
contacts say there is stasis between current
milk supply and dairy manufacturing needs.
Class I and Class III sales are flat to higher.
Class II sales are level.
Arizona milk output is slowing down. Con-
tacts report that monsoonal rains have tailed
off, and flash floods and road closures are no
longer delaying milk pick-ups. Class I demand
is higher as the back-to-school pipeline fills.
Class II and III orders are level.
Milk production in New Mexico is lower. Bot-
tling orders are picking up. Class III sales are
higher. Balancing plants are working through
steady but manageable deliveries.
Milk production, and components, are
decreasing in the Pacific Northwest. Output is
lower than forecast in some pockets of Wash-
ington, but overall, production in the region is
down to expected levels for this time of year.
Class I demand is getting a boost as schools
gear up to return to in-person instruction.
Class II and Class III orders are level.
Milk output is steady in the mountain states
of Idaho, Utah and Colorado. Some contacts
report that Idaho spot loads are available at
discounts of up to $5.00 under Class III. Class I
demand is increasing. Class II and III sales are
flat. Condensed skim contracts are steady.
Cream is tighter this week. Some cream-
based manufacturers say short cream supplies
can generally be resolved within a day or two.
Other contacts are relaying weak demand.
Butter and ice cream production vary, but
contacts say that cream cheese production
remains active.
