Comment: Extreme dry conditions will
send cattle to market early this year. If
you have cows and bulls to cull the earlier
the better. Now more than ever before
a proper vaccination program for your
calves will help them bring more money.
Buyers are requesting vaccination records
on the calves. Some buyers are taking
a firm pass on unvaccinated cattle this
year. Call us and we can share a proper
vaccination protocol.

Comments: Monday’s feeder and small
animal special featured over 1,100 head
of stock, with a good run of light feeders
and yearlings, cows, and sheep and goats.
Slaughter cows averaged 60-65 cents
per pound, with a top of 75 cents. This
market was slightly lower, as the number
of cows coming to market due to drought
continues to increase. Slaughter bulls
topped out at $1.02, with an average be-
tween 86 and 93 cents per pound. Feeder
cattle were stronger, both on light calves
and yearlings. 500-600 weight steers
brought $1.60, with an average of $1.54,
while same weight heifers brought $1.42.
800-900 weight steers brought $148.50,
with an average of $140.00, while heifers
brought $129.00, with an average of
$112.00. Good Lambs brought between
$1.90 and $2.10 per pound weighing 80-
120 pounds. Ewes brought 55 to 85 cents
per pound. Next Monday, Aug. 2, will be
a regular cattle sale, and our next feeder
special will be Monday, Aug. 9.

Fluid Milk and Cream — Western U.S.
July 29
Milk output is decreasing in California, and
component levels are lower. Milk is still widely avail-
able, however, and some contacts report balance
between supply and demand. Bottling sales are
lower. Class II and Class III demand is steady.
Recent reports indicate that monsoon rains
across the Southwest have helped provide a
modicum of drought improvement to the arid
region. The torrential rainfall, however, has also led
to instances of dangerous flash flooding.
Arizona contacts say milk output has tightened
as cow comfort is less than optimal amid high heat,
humidity, and muddy farm conditions. Flooded
roads have caused some delays in milk pick ups, but
handlers report that milk deliveries are still coming
in. Class I orders are ramping up as the school year
begins for some educational institutions. Class II
demand is flat.
Milk production in New Mexico is lower and
following seasonal patterns. Bottling sales are level.
Class III demand is steady to higher. Balancing
plants are active, but not stressed, contacts report.
Heat events and wildfire conditions may have
influenced slightly lower than expected production
in Washington, but contacts say that milk output
in the Pacific Northwest is relatively steady overall.
Some handlers anticipate that more hot weather
could lead to dips in production, but others expect
that cows will maintain current output rates for a
while. Class I demand is lower. Class II and III orders
are level.
Farm-level milk production is declining in the
mountain states of Idaho, Utah and Colorado, but
supplies are still ample. Handlers report that spot
milk is available in Idaho at discounts of up to $5.00
to $5.50 under Class III. Bottling orders are level
to higher.
Balancing plants are active. Contracted
condensed skim is steady. Cream is tightening. Con-
tacts report flat demand. Cream supplies are meet-
ing the production needs for butter, cream cheese,
and other cream-based dairy manufacturers.
PACIFIC NORTHWEST MARKET ORDER: Milk de-
livered to the Pacific Northwest Order 124 totaled
598.3 million pounds in June 2021. Class I utilization
was 124.5 million pounds and accounted for 20.81
percent of producer milk. The uniform price at test
was $18.70, down $0.28 from May 2021, but $2.03
above the same month a year ago.
ARIZONA MARKET ORDER: Milk delivered to the
Arizona Order 131 totaled 390.1 million pounds
in June 2021. Class I utilization was 109.2 million
pounds and accounted for about 28.0 percent of
producer milk. The uniform price at test was $18.21,
up $0.65 from May 2021, and $2.39 above the
same month a year ago.
MONTHLY MILK PRODUCTION: The NASS Milk
Production report noted June 2021 milk produc-
tion in the 24 major states was 18.1 billion pounds,
3.2 percent higher than a year ago. Milk cows in
the 24 selected states totaled 9.00 million head,
161,000 head more than a year ago.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold
steady to 4.00 higher, with some lighter weight
yearling steers in the North Central region being
6.00 to 7.00 higher.
Long strings of yearling steers in
drought-stricken areas in the North Central
region were met with very good demand for
yearling steers and heifers offered right off grass
and are in a very light and desirable flesh condi-
tion. Order buyers were in the seats and bidding
fiercely to get these green cattle bought.
Drought conditions in the North are still severe
across the state even after there was rain last
week in only some areas that were in dire need.
Cattle are being pulled from grass much earlier,
meaning pay weights are lighter than normal,
but the feeder market has spiked higher which
will help ranchers greatly. This week, very high
temperatures with humidity across the Plains
reduced auction receipts on this report.
The CME Cattle Complex had a ho-hum week
with the front six months of Live Cattle contracts
being from 0.200 lower to 0.575 higher on the
week. Feeder Cattle contracts were 0.125 to
1.900 lower on the week.
Feeder Weekly Cattle Slaughter under federal
inspection estimated at 649K for the week, 1K
more than last week, and 13K more than a year
ago. Boxed beef found support levels around
265.00 mid-week last week and rebounded
this week.
Choice boxed beef closed the week 11.83
higher at 278.46, while Select was 9.25 higher at
259.19. On Friday afternoon, the Choice-Select
spread was reported at 19.27. Negotiated live
trading of fed cattle in the Southern Plains sold
1.00 higher from the previous week at 120.00,
while dressed sales in Nebraska sold at 196.00.
Auction volume this week included 59 percent
weighing over 600 lbs and 40 percent heifers.
