July 2021
Dear Farm Bureau Member:
Many of you are currently deep in the middle of summer harvest during one
of the hottest, driest years on record.
Please know that Farm Bureau is doing everything we can at the state and
federal levels to get support for our members who’ve been impacted by the
heat and drought.
On the federal side, OFB is gathering stories about gaps within the existing
natural disaster relief programs and the needs of Oregon farmers and
ranchers on the ground.
On the state side, OFB and our ag coalition partners are crafting a
comprehensive natural disaster package, covering drought, smoke damage,
and ice storm damage statewide and across all commodities. This effort will
result in one big natural disaster ask of the Oregon State Legislature.
How you can help: If you have experienced crop loss or damage due
to the drought and/or extreme heat, please document it with photos and/
or videos. Contact OFB’s Victoria Flowers at victoria@oregonfb.org or
541.880.4407 and share your story.
In this issue of the Capital Press, OFB presents our review of the 2021
Oregon Legislative Session.
While the virtual session posed many serious challenges for Oregon
agriculture, Farm Bureau remained undaunted, and the session ended
with our farm and ranch families faring well. OFB secured major legislative
victories and improved funding for critical natural resource programs.
See our page in this issue to also learn about upcoming OFB events,
including a Trap Shoot, the Bayer OFB Classic Golf Tourney, the 2021 OFB
Convention, and two pesticide applicator’s training classes for four CORE
credit hours.
To keep up with what OFB is up to year-round, register for our emailed
OFB News and as-needed OFB Action Alerts at OregonFB.org/advocacy or
send a request to annemarie@oregonfb.org.
As always, thank you for your membership in — and belief in — Farm
Bureau. Our grassroots organization wouldn’t be effective without your
ongoing support. If you know of a neighbor, family member, or ag supplier
who should become a Farm Bureau member, ask them to join us. They can
easily sign up at OregonFB.org or by contacting OFB at 503.399.1701.
