What a great way to celebrate a 50th birthday. Some 2,717 farmers and ranchers filled three buildings at the Oregon State Fairgrounds last month for the 50th edition of the Northwest Agri- cultural Show. Some 128 exhibitors braved the winter weather to come from across the West to tell visitors about their state-of-the-art equipment and services. On top of that, high school students from around the area attended the Career Fair presented by the Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation, and the state FFA officers and ambassadors and Oregon dairy princess ambassadors were on hand to meet and greet visitors from around the region. But it was the show’s sponsors who made the three-day event even more special: • Harvest Capital Company. • Coastal Farm and Ranch. • Kubota Tractor Company. • Oregon State Fairgrounds and Exposition Center. • Oregon Aglink. • Oregon FFA. • Oregon Farm Bureau. • Travel Salem. • KYKN-AM 1430. The day sponsors were: • Ron’s Nut Farm. • Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation. • Western Trailers. Oregon Aglink was also on hand for its annual meeting, which featured nationally known speaker and author Michele Payn. A full slate of seminars and classes on subjects ranging from water rights to pesticide certifica- tion and from interest rates to succession planning helped farmers and ranchers. Speakers from Timber Unity and the Oregon Farm Bureau also discussed the issues that will be coming out of this year’s legislative session. Next year’s Northwest Ag Show will be Jan. 13-15, 2021, at the fairgrounds. We invite all of our readers and exhibitors to join us for what promises to be an even better three-day celebration of Ore- gon agriculture.
