Roberta Gruber, Program Director of Oregon Farm Bureau’s FEELDS Program — Roberta directs the Farm Employer Education & Legal Defense Service, a program of the Oregon Farm Bureau Federation. She has been advising and counseling employers in the agricultural industry since 1991, specializing in strategic HR solutions for the small farm, although she has broad experience with ag businesses of all sizes and types. Maria Schmidlkofer, Counsel, Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt — Maria has been practicing in the areas of Estate Planning and Administration since 2007. She focuses on all aspects of estate planning, charitable planning, business and farm succession, guardianships, conservatorships, probate and trust administration. Eric Lloyd, Safety Consultant, Risk Management Resources — Eric’s exposure to safety and agriculture began at an early age when he spent summers working on the family ranch in Idaho. Eric holds a degree in criminal justice from Western Oregon University, and served in law enforcement for several years until being drawn back to his roots. Chad Higgins, Assistant Professor, Oregon State University — Chad founded the Nexus of Energy, Water and Agriculture Laboratory (NEWAG lab) to study the physical, operational and geospatial trade-offs in the energy, water, food nexus in 2012 just after he joined the faculty at OSU. He holds degrees in Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Engineering and has broad research interests that cover topics from turbulence to precision agriculture to snow science. Jim McKay, Caltec Ag — Jim has over 30 years of piloting experience in an array of general aviation aircraft. Jim is one of only a few FFA-certified remote pilots of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS’s) and loves challenging assignments. His interest in photography has expanded to UAS drone photography, creating NorCal Aerials in 2015. Ryan Kuhns, Economist, Farmer Mac — Prior to joining Farmer Mac, Ryan was an economist at USDA where he forecast farm sector income and researched topics related to agricultural finance. He currently focuses on analyzing the agricultural economic environment, developing quantitative credit risk models and analytics. Doug has worked more than 30 years in the electrical and lighting field in a variety of roles. He currently works as a program manager and senior lighting specialist providing clients with technology training, efficiency measure research and site consultations.
