How to write ads that sell!
1. KEY WORD AND BENEFIT:
4. PHONE NUMBER:
Tell the reader immediately what you are
selling. Then state a benefit to the reader.
Example: “German Shepherd Puppy, 8
weeks, silver and black male, AKC. House
trained, good disposition, ideal companion
for your child, $75. (000) 000-0000.”
A most essential item! If you can be
reached only at certain times, let your
potential buyers know when they can best
reach you. Add “evenings; after 5:00 pm;
before noon,” etc.
2. BODY COPY:
Let the potential buyer know the facts.
Include make, model, year, size, color, con-
dition, or any special features of your item.
3. PRICE FAIRLY:
For best results, it has been proven that a
price should be included. If you’re willing
to make a deal, be sure to add “or best
offer.” People aren’t necessarily looking for
low prices, but for GOOD VALUE.
5. EFFECTIVE &
ECONOMICAL RESULTS
Not every potential buyer on that particu-
lar week will be in the market for your
specific item. Initially, PLACE YOUR
AD FOR FOUR WEEKS. You’ll get the
benefit of a BETTER RATE PER ISSUE
in a consecutive, multiple-insertion
schedule, and you may maximize your
potential readership. Many more people
will have the opportunity to see your ad
AT LEAST ONCE. When you get the
desired results before the ad expires, you
may cancel your ad by our weekly dead-
line and pay only for the number of times
it ran.
“I sold the
compressor 30
minutes after
placing the ad on
the internet with
Capital Press.
It was really
something. I
couldn’t believe
it! The other ads
I placed had the
phone ringing
before I even got
out the door!”
Don Wachlin
Sherwood, OR
“Your ad worked
wonders! Our
wagon sold
yesterday to a
man who read
the ad in
Capital Press.”
Phil Hixson
Blanchard, ID
“Just a line to let
you know I have
enjoyed reading
Capital Press for
the past 50 years.
I read a lot of
useful
information, like
finding the right
piece of property
to move out of
the city to a
country home.”
