“We are drawn to things we don’t of-
ten see, and in this contest we have rare-
ly seen much action,” Bose said. “This
plane caught our eye against the green
landscape, but also because the photog-
rapher caught the moment of the crop
dusting.”
Steve Shinning of Spokane won sec-
ond place with “The New Palouse.”
Karen Baumann of Washtucna, Wash.,
won third place with “Penawawa Peach-
es” and director’s choice with “Country
Cousins Cooling Off.” Heywood won
Greater Spokane Incorporated’s Choice
with “Palouse Tractor Tracks.”
Honorable mentions went to Farren
Young of Davenport, Wash., for “Polli-
nators,” Shinning for “Sunflower Fields
Forever,” Daniel Leitz of Spokane for
“Moooo!” and Erica Gregerson of Dal-
ton Gardens, Idaho, for “Shhhh, It’s nap
time, Mom!”
Bose advised future photographers
to concentrate on showing judges some-
thing they’ve never seen, or displaying
something familiar in a new way.
“We love to see people and animals
in genuine moments from their lives,”
he said. “Oftentimes photographers like
to create those moments, but it is easy to
spot a genuine (one). We crave to see into
the lives of the families which make up
the rural and farming communities.”
All entries will be displayed during
the Spokane Ag Expo at the Spokane
Convention Center Exhibit Halls during
Ag Week in Spokane Feb. 2-4.
