At 6 p.m. Darla Sue Thomas August 7, 1945 - August 12, 2022 Darla Sue Thomas, 77, of La Grande, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at her residence. At her request, there will be no service. Darla was born on Aug. 7, 1945, in Vancouver, Washington, to Donald and Shirley (Adams) Priest. She attended Mount Vernon High School in Oregon, where she played volleyball and softball and received awards in both sports. She married Billy J. Helton who later passed. She then married Tony C. Thomas who passed in 2016. Darla had many jobs through her life. She worked at a nursing home, bakery stores and was a sales associate at Walmart. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts like crocheting, embroidering, and knitting, but her favorite pastime was playing with her grandchildren, going fishing and baking goodies with them. Darla is survived by her daughters, Kristina Vincen and Toni Dubose; siblings, Jody Allen Priest (Margaret) of Washington and Becci Freeman of Alaska; seven grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Shirley (Johnston) Priest; first husband, Billy J. Helton; second husband, Tony Thomas; sister, La Von Johnson; son, Billy J. Helton Jr.; and grandson, Billy Helton. Wicked Mary will take the stage to cap off a festive day in Cove. Eulenna Cheryl Coe Virginia Faye Brown Larsen November 28, 1945 - August 12, 2022 April 13, 1934 - August 15, 2022 Eulenna Cheryl Coe, 76, of Elgin, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at her residence. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Elgin Stampede Hall. Cheryl was born in Pendleton, Oregon, on Nov. 28, 1945, to Walter Corley and Eulenna Seehafer. She graduated from Ione High School in 1963, she and her best friend, Betty Lou, graduated nursing school in 1965. Cheryl married Kenneth Dale Coe on May 2, 1970. They were the first ones to be married at the Elgin Christian Church. For many years, Cheryl worked at Boise Cascade, working graveyard pulling green chain. Ken worked days at the Husky Station and Cheryl worked nights so they could juggle kids. Ken and Cheryl purchased Consolo’s Pizza Parlor and operated it for several years, until the fire at Odie’s. Cheryl then opened TLC Estates, an adult foster care home, where she cared for people who needed help but not to the level of a nursing home. She truly loved nursing and caring for people. She later returned to working at Valley View Nursing Home in La Grande, also graveyard shift up until May 2013. She loved to do many things. Years ago, she played on the volleyball town team and was at one time the secretary for the Elgin Stampeders. She was an active member of the Elgin Health District Board, a member of the Lions Club and she was even a star - Eastern Star that is. She loved to go the mountains, picking huckleberries, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling to mention some. Cheryl is survived by her two daughters, Melissa Coe, Carmen Pearson and son-in law Mike Pearson of Elgin; grandchildren, Christopher Allen Mata, Brittany Edgmand, Ashley Lynn Gentry, Jamie Norton, Jesse Gentry and many great-grandchildren. Not to mention so many close friends in the community. She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Kenneth Dale Coe, her mother, Eulenna “Lennie” Vaughn, father, Walter Corley, and her stepfather, Charles Vaughn. She rejoined her husband on their 70th wedding anniversary. She was born on April 13, 1934, in La Grande, Oregon, to Kenneth Loraine Brown and Velma Pearl McCall Brown. She joined her big sisters Margaret Brown Taylor and Patricia Brown Hansen. She grew up in La Grande and graduated from La Grande High School. The summer after graduation, on Aug. 15, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Evan L. Larsen. They are the parents of four daughters. In 1965, they moved to Pendleton, Oregon, where Evan went into business with his brother, Darvell, owning Penland Bros. Moving Co., which was later renamed Larsen Transfer Co. Then they owned and operated Pendleton Bowling Lanes. She loved her children and grandchildren (including her great- and great-great-grandchildren). She loved roses, lighthouses, hummingbirds and gardening. She crocheted, loved music and painted. She had a quick smile and wit. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served all her life in many different church positions. After moving to the Portland area, she and Evan were service missionaries at Deseret Industries and then in the Portland, Oregon, LDS Temple. She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Darwin) Rasmussen of Middleton, Idaho, Christine Baxter Wood of Pendleton, Oregon, Carol (Tom) Preston of Pendleton, Oregon, Teresa (Jim) Dunlop of Aloha, Oregon; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Taylor, sisters-in-law, Dawn Larsen and Marie Larsen Baker, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth, in 1967, mother, Velma (when Virginia was 13 years old), husband, Evan, sister, Patricia Hansen, and granddaughter, Lori Baxter. There will be a graveside service on Friday, Aug. 19, at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande, Oregon. A family memorial service will be broadcast on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. Pacific time.
