Magazine JOHN DAY — The 113th Grant County Fair kicks off Wednesday, Aug. 10, and continues through Saturday, Aug. 13, at the fairgrounds in John Day, 411 NW Bridge St. The theme is “Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights.” Gates open at 8 a.m. daily. The pavilion is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 1-8 p.m. Saturday. Mindy Winegar, fair manager, said this year features new food vendors, a magician and an acrobatic trampo- line show. And the family fun center will entertain fair-goers with a bouncy house, rock wall, obstacle course and more. “Eight diff erent activities,” Winegar said. Wednesday is a free day. After that, daily admission to the fair is $6, $3 seniors and youth ages 6-11, and free for 5 and younger. Or purchase a weekly pass for $15. Purchase tickets online at grantcountyoregon.net/231/ Fair. Access to the family fun zone is $10 for the week. Riding the mechanical bull is extra — $3 for one ride or $5 for two. The Grant County Fair Parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Live music is planned throughout the week at center stage. All are included with fair admission except the Friday night concert featuring Jessie Leigh and Eddie Montgomery. Here are the details: • The James Gang: 8 p.m. Wednesday • Boondock Boys: 8:30 p.m. Thursday • Jessie Leigh and Eddie Montgomery (of Montgomery Gentry): Gates open at 6 p.m. Friday. Leigh takes the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Montgomery at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $35, or $15 for ages 12 and younger. (Tick- ets at the gate are $5 more.)
