LIVE THEATER AND MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS AROUND EASTERN OREGON 7 CURTAIN CALL AUG. 1017, 2022 Missoula Children’s Theatre returns to Pendleton By Jennifer Colton Go! Magazine PENDLETON — For the fi rst time in years, Pendleton will have a summer the- ater camp. College Community Theatre is partnering with the Missoula Children’s Theatre to present “The Emperor’s New Clothes” on the campus of Blue Mountain Community College. CCT Board President Anna Curry said the nonprofi t is ready to return to the stage and partnering with Missoula Chil- dren’s Theatre will allow youth actors to get a taste of theatre without a large time commitment. “Our campers will learn the acting process of an entire production from au- dition to performance in just one week,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity.” Eastern Oregon is no stranger to the Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions. MCT is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre company and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year. Once an organization partners with Missoula Children’s Theatre, a tour team arrives with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, then hold auditions for 50- 60 local students to perform. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic chil- dren’s stories and fairytales. In addition to the performance and rehearsals, Pendleton students will par- ticipate in workshops to learn the basic tools of acting, what happens behind the scenes of a production, mime, stage combat and juggling. Camp registration is limited to 60 chil- dren so all children are guaranteed a part in the production. The Pendleton Summer Youth Theatre Camp will run during the day Monday-Fri- day, Aug. 15-19, with two performances set for Saturday, Aug. 20. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. for camp- ers age 8-18 and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for campers age 6-7. All campers will perform during two performances on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the Bob Clapp Theatre at Blue Moun- tain Community College. The performances are free and open to the public. Audi- tions for the fi rst show of the season, “Nunsense,” will take place in September with the show planned for later this fall. Curry said a full schedule of shows for the 2022-23 season will be announced soon. “Theater is an important aspect of the arts,” Curry said. “Our goal is to once again be part of the larger arts communi- ty in Pendleton, providing quality pro- grams for children and teens.” Visit www.collegecommunitytheatre. com for more information about the Em- peror’s New Clothes youth theater camp and watch the website and Facebook for more information about the upcoming 2022-23 theater season.
