Gwendolyn “Gwen” Eileen (McCrae) Springer
Richard “Dick” J. Wood
July 26, 2022
February 27, 1934 - July 22, 2022
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Eileen
(McCrae) Springer, 71, of La
Grande, passed away surrounded
by loved ones on Tuesday, July 26,
2022, in Portland, Oregon. A grave-
side service was held on Monday,
Aug. 1, 2022, at Union Victorian
Cemetery. A celebration of life will
be held at a later date.
Gwen’s family meant the most
to her. Even though her family is separated by distance,
she spoke to her daughters and grandchildren almost
daily. Her passion for reading never stopped, and she
had a huge appetite for history. She loved crocheting,
quilting and knitting. Throughout the years she made
some beautiful blankets and other garments. Writing
poetry was her specialty, and so many of the people
who were near to Gwen’s heart were blessed to have a
personal poem written just for them.
Gwen was married to her lifelong love, Charles
Springer. She was a loving mama to her girls, Heather
Clover, Jeannie (Randy) Bednarz, Randi Davis, bonus
daughter Crystal Springer, and of course her pups Jack
and Bentley. She was an adopted mom to Michael and
Mark. She was Grandma to Brandon, Christian, McK-
enna, Madison, Brooklyn and Gigi and to Adalyn, Ben-
jamin, Wyatt, Noah, Presley, Phoenix and Ariyah.
She is survived by her sister, Janet (Roger) Mc-
Cumber; brother, Jason (Amanda) McCrae; numerous
nieces, nephews, and cousins: and some of the best
friends you could ask for.
Gwen was a loving and caring wife, mother, grand-
mother, great-grandmother and friend, and her loss
has been hard for everyone who was fortunate to have
known her. She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her
mom and dad (Jay and Opal McCrae), her beloved pups
Nicky and Bella, and so many loved ones who passed
before her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the
American Stroke Foundation at www.americanstroke.
org or to the Blue Mountain Humane Association at
3212 Highway 30, La Grande, OR 97850.

mobile home moving business in Seattle and owned an
orchard in Hood River.
On Nov. 20, 1976, Dick married Karen Streich while
living in Fort Collins, Colorado. They lived in Laramie
and Broomfield before settling in Karen’s home of
Elgin, where they remained.

wheeling in their Jeep and his miniature donkeys and
miniature Schnauzers.
