Terrifi c Tuesday: ‘The Great Sioux Uprising’
By Daneli Atilano
Go! Magazine
PENDLETON — The city of Pendleton is rich
with history, and part of that story is brought to life
in the 1953 fi lm “The Great Sioux Uprising.” The
movie, which was fi lmed in Pendleton in 1952, will
be screened Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. for Terrifi c
Tuesday at Heritage Station Museum, thanks to the
stories of museum board member Mary Jo Price.
While working at the Rivoli Theatre in Pendleton,
Price and other Rivoli staff members had frequent
interactions with the fi lm’s lead star, Jeff Chandler.
Price’s stories sparked inspiration for the museum
to feature the fi lm as a Terrifi c Tuesday event. Price
will be in attendance and has the honor of opening
the fi lm.

“We specifi cally looked for movies that tied to
stories locals have told us and were fi lmed here.
There are a number of locals who were in both Jeff
Chandler fi lms shot in Eastern Oregon,” said Shan-
non Gruenhagen, Heritage Station marketing and
tourism coordinator.
