BAKER CITY — Football players, fans
and Shriners arrive this week for the
annual East-West All-Star Shrine Game on
Saturday, Aug. 6.
But fi rst, the community is invited
to join players, coaches, co-captains,
queens and cheerleaders at a barbecue
on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 5 p.m. in Geis-
er-Pollman Park. Cost for the meal is $25
a plate.
SATURDAY, AUG. 6
In addition to the game, Saturday in-
cludes a Hoofi n’ It To Beef Fit 5K/10K fun
run/walk and the Gridiron Tailgate and Grill.
THURSDAY BBQ
The community is invited to join
players, coaches, co-captains,
queens and cheerleaders for a
barbecue at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4,
at Geiser-Pollman Park.
Cost is $25.
The day starts early at Geiser-Pollman
Park where the Baker County Livestock
Association and Baker County Cattle-
women cook up the locally famous break-
fast from 7-10 a.m. The meal of steak,
eggs and pancakes costs $10, or request
just eggs and pancakes for $7.
The fun run and walk starts at 8 a.m.
Entry is $25 for the 5K or $35 for the 10K.

The Baker County Livestock Association and Baker County Cattlewomen will cook up a
steak breakfast Saturday, Aug. 6, as part of Shrine Game festivities in Baker City.
Midmorning, everyone heads down-
town for the annual Shrine parade. Entries
line up at 10 a.m. at Baker Middle School,
and the parade starts at 11 a.m.
Back at the park, the Gridiron Tailgate
and Grill continues with lunch of hamburg-
ers ($8) or hot dogs ($7) — all made with
locally grown beef.
A silent auction runs from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.,
and at 1 p.m. two signed Shrine footballs
will be live auctioned.
Proceeds from the day will purchase
a 4-H or FFA steer, which is auctioned
during halftime of the game to raise
money for the Shriners Children’s Hospi-
tal in Portland — which is the whole point
of this annual game.
THE GAME
Tickets to the football game will be sold
at the park on Saturday, and at Bulldog
Memorial Stadium starting at 5 p.m.
Price is $12 for general admission
or $15 for reserved seating. Pre-game
events start at 6 p.m., and kickoff is 7 p.m.
The steer will be auctioned at halftime,
along with several signed Shrine footballs.
