KERN COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT
METROPOLITAN DIVISION-JUSTICE BUILDING
In Re The Matter of:
Case No. BAT-22-003013
The Petition of:
ESTHER SYLVIA LONG
CITATION TO PARENT
to Declare:
CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL SMALLWOOD,
Minor, for freedom from Parental Custody and
Control
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
To: ZACHARY TYLER LONG aka SLAVENS:
By order of this court you are hereby advised that you may ap-
pear before the judge presiding in Division E of this court on September
12, 2022 at 9:00 am, then and there to show cause, if any you have,
why CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL SMALLWOOD, should not be declared
free from your custody and control.
The following information concerns rights and procedures that
relate to this proceeding for the termination of custody and control of
CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL SMALLWOOD, and require such protection
the court will appoint counsel to represent them, whether or not they
able to afford counsel. CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL SMALLWOOD, will
not be present in court unless they so request or the court so orders.
2. If a parent of CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL SMALLWOOD, ap-
pears without counsel and is unable to afford counsel, the court must
appoint counsel for the parent, unless the parent knowingly and intel-
ligently waives the right to be represented my counsel. The court will
not appoint the same counsel to represent the minor child and the par-
ent.
3. The court may appoint either a public defender or private
counsel. If private counsel is appointed, he or she will receive a rea-
sonable sum for compensation and expenses, the amount of which will
be determined by the court. That amount must be paid by the real par-
ties in interest, but not by the minor, in such proportions as the court
believes to be just. If, however, the court finds that any of the real par-
ties in interest cannot afford counsel, the amount will be paid by the
county.
4. The court may continue the proceeding for not more than 30
days as necessary to appoint counsel and to enable counsel to be-
come acquainted with the case.

YOUR BIRTHDAY by Stella Wilder
Born today, you can be loud, brash, aggres-
sive, confrontational and highly competitive
-- but you can also be quite sensitive. When
someone comes to you with a problem, you
are sure to listen with genuine interest and
offer sincere condolences -- as well as real,
effective assistance. You are supremely loyal,
and once you give your friendship to another,
that person can rely upon it for life.
THURSDAY, JULY 28
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) -- What you
encounter today is likely to differ from what
you experienced last time you were in the
same situation. Look around; get your bear-
ings.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) -- Someone
may criticize you for doing what comes natu-
rally, but you’re perfectly aware that it’s not for
everyone. You can stay the course.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) -- A golden
opportunity is just too much to pass up today
-- but you’re going to have to take a trip in
order to enjoy maximum rewards.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) -- You can
keep a certain threat at bay today while focus-
ing on that which must get done. Someone
behaves in a way that is confusing to you.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) -- You
must protect your autonomy today if you’re
going to maintain the confidence you need to
address a coming problem effectively.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) -- It’s a
good day to delegate if you can, because not
everything has to be done or even overseen by
you. Take charge of the essentials.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) -- Others
may think your behavior is rather square
today, but you’re doing what is best for you,
and no one can argue with that. Keep it up.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20) -- As you try
to formulate the best possible plan today, you
can borrow from this one and that one, and
even a third if it serves your purpose.
ARIES (March 21-April 19) -- Solving a
long-standing problem today may be as sim-
ple as acknowledging it. Others would call this
the first step, but that may actually do the trick
and find an answer.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20) -- You can
take advantage of someone’s mistakes today
and reach the finish line first, but you mustn’t
make anyone look bad in the process.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20) -- Quality con-
trol takes up a good deal of brainpower today.
Something isn’t quite right, but you can’t yet
identify it or its cause.
CANCER (June 21-July 22) -- You know
full well what is going on around you today,
but in order to reel someone in, you’re going
to have to pretend you’re unaware.
