James “Jim” McKinney
June 30, 1938 - July 19, 2022
James “Jim” McKinney, beloved husband of Rev.
Mouse McKinney, went home to be with the Lord he
loved on July 19, 2022.
Jim was born June 30, 1938, in Baker, Oregon, to
Thelma and Walt McKinney. He was raised and went
to school in Baker, graduating in 1957. He joined the
National Guard in 1956 while still in high school. In
February 1958 he got a discharge to join the Air Force
and served in Japan until July 1961. He did Mouse the
honor of making her his wife in 1971.
Jim and Mouse in 1971 moved to La Grande, where
he worked for Boise Cascade Particle Board for 34
years. During that time he was a firefighter for 12 years
for the La Grande Rural Fire Department. After retiring
he went to work at Scott’s Heating. In 2010 Mouse was
called to pastor the Nazarene Church in Enterprise, and
they moved to Joseph, where they were so happy.
In 1964, Jim accepted Jesus Christ into his life, and
his life totally changed. He served his Lord faithfully
until his last breath. Jim made a promise to God that if
He would help Him read notes and relearn the trombone,
he would play for Him until he could play no more. God
did just that, and Jim kept his promise.
Jim is survived by his only sibling, Katheryn
Richards of Springfield; Al Simmons, his brother-in-
law from Idaho who was a dear brother to him; and his
wife, Mouse McKinney of Joseph.
A service will be held Thursday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at
