RECORDS Thursday, May 12, 2022 ThE OBsErVEr — A5 Tickets on sale for hospital foundation event The Observer LA GRANDE — The Grande Ronde Hospital Foundation and US Bank announced in a press release that the annual “From the Ground Up!” fundraising event will take place on Saturday, July 9, starting at 6 p.m. at the Union County Fairgrounds, La Grande. The event, which begins at 6 p.m., will feature multiple mobile food ven- dors with many tasty meal options from the area. “Dueling” DJs KC Kunkel and Scott Newman will pro- vide music, and there will be games, including cornhole and ax throwing. The event will feature performer Jonathan Burns, who has appeared on America’s Got Talent, and Penn and Teller’s Fool Us. “Jonathan will make you laugh and cheer for his hilarious and amazing jokes, tricks, and stunts,” according to the press release. Guests will get a first look at a new project Grande Ronde Hospital is starting this summer, which “will launch the future of health care in Northeastern Oregon,” the release stated. The Grande Ronde Hospital Foundation will be taking a big role in funding this project and will be announcing more details and donation opportunities. For attendees and non-attendees alike, “From The Ground Up!” will also feature an online silent auction and a limited entry Golden Ticket Raffle for the chance to win a “bucket list vacation.” Golden Ticket entries are limited to 300 tickets. The Grande Ronde Hospital Foun- dation has been fundraising for patient care equipment at Grande Ronde Hos- pital since 1969 and has raised more than $4.6 million, the release said. Police responded and counseled the subject. 8:35 a.m. — A Union County sheriff’s deputy responded to Elgin residences for a person suffering a mental or emotional crisis. The person made a safety plan with the Center for Human Develop- ment Inc., La Grande, 9:55 a.m. — La Grande police received a complaint about a theft at Boy Scouts of America, 2301 Adams Ave. An officer responded and warned a person for theft of services. 12:44 p.m. — A caller reported animal abuse on the 500 block of East Ash Street, Union. An animal enforcement officer made contact and explained options. 4:15 p.m. — A caller reported an abandoned vehicle in front of a residence on the 500 block of North Bellwood Street, Union. A Union County sheriff’s deputy responded and found the vehicle had been stolen. Follow us on Facebook! Thomas G. Lawry Jr. February 11, 1947 – May 1, 2022 Thomas George Lawry Jr., 75, of La Grande, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Grande Ronde Hospital. At his request, there will not be a service. Thomas was born on Feb. 11, 1947, in Modesto, California, to Thomas and Noreen (Berg) Lawry. He resided in La Grande, Oregon; Hamilton and Arlee, Montana; and Las Vegas, Nevada. Thomas served our country while in the United States Navy. In 1991, he married Sally Jean Nelson and they remained married until her passing in 2011. He married Joe-Ann Joyce Nelson in 2013. Thomas worked for Simplot and was a Buckaroo around the West. He loved the western life! He enjoyed traveling, camping, RVing and listening to country western music, such as Dwight Yokum and Allen Jackson. He was generous to a fault, bighearted, and family was the most important thing to him. He was also a member of the Masons. Thomas is survived by his wife, Joe-Ann; children, Bo Jay Rambo of Salem, Oregon, and Missy Rambo of North Dakota; stepdaughter, Shana Jean Terry; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
