Girls: Get what you need to plan your future
Local Soroptimist club to provide
career guidance, mentorship to
girls during one-day conference
The Observer
LA GRANDE — Soroptimist
International of La Grande is hosting
a day-long conference for secondary
school-age girls to provide career guid-
ance and mentorship opportunities.
The Soroptimist “Dream It, Be It:
Career Support for Girls” program
aims to help girls grow to be strong,
successful and happy adults. The
career conference is on Saturday, May
14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Le BeBe
Bakery’s event center, 1101 Wash-
ington Ave., La Grande.
Girls and their parents/guardians can
learn more and sign up for the program
by going to www.lagrande soroptimist.org
or contacting Patty Gooderham at
gooderhams@charter.net. The deadline
for signing up is April 25. Early regis-
tration is recommended since space is
limited.
Throughout the day, the girls will
attend sessions based on the following
topics:
• Discovering your dreams
• Exploring careers
• Creating achievable goals
• Rising above obstacles
• Turning failure into success
• Balancing your stress
• Putting dreams into action
“Because we don’t expect that all
girls will know what they want to do
for the rest of their lives and we also
know that plans change, the skills
developed through the day can be
applied to any goals the girls iden-
tify throughout their education and
careers,” said Jacque Harvey, club
president, in a press release. “The girls
will also have the opportunity to speak
with working women and perhaps
arrange a mentorship with a woman
whose career interests them.”
In addition to learning important
life skills, participants will leave
with a variety of other resources and
fun items, a special Dream It, Be It
shirt and bracelet and certificate of
completion.
group and partner activities, taught by

Susan ‘Susi’ (Scott) Webb
November 14, 1936 - April 2, 2022
Susan “Susi” (Scott) Webb was
a loving mother, grandmother,
sister and friend. She left this
world on April 2, 2022, at the age
of 85. She was born on Nov. 14,
1936, in Anacortes, Washington,
to Robert Donald Scott and Edith
Ebell Scott. After Susi graduated
from high school at Punahou
School in Hawaii, she went to
college in Colorado, where she
studied architecture.
Susi married her first husband, William Thoelecke,
and moved to Chicago. Sadly, William passed away
after a few years of marriage. Susi married John Webb
in California in 1963. Together they had two children
(Kimberly and Belynda). Susi lovingly helped raise
two of John’s children from his first marriage (Suzanne
and John) and stepped in as a loving guardian to Alison
McCallum.
Susi loved growing up in Hawaii. She was a haole
hula dancer and boogie boarder. She spent the early part
of her adult years living in San Francisco and working as
a model at I. Magnin. Susi raised her family in Moraga,
California. She loved to sail on the bay all winter and
spent summers camping with her family in the Santa
Cruz Mountains. Susi was very involved in painting
sets for many theater companies in the San Francisco
Bay area. She loved to travel and saw many beautiful
places, including Africa, Israel, China and Germany,
where she met many family members with her mother
and sister.
Susi moved to La Grande to care for her mother in
2003. During her time in La Grande, Susi was involved
with the library, Shelter From the Storm, Oregon Arts
Council and PEO. She enjoyed volunteering to help
within her community.
Preceded in death by her sister, Marcia Scott Myers,
Susi is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Webb
Dittmann and her husband, Thomas Dittmann; her
daughter, Belynda Marks Webb; grandson, Emmett;
stepchildren, Suzanne Webb and John Webb and
Alison McCallum; niece, Michele Myers Kennedy; and
nephew, Robert “Bob” Myers.
If you were a friend of Susi’s and are interested in
joining us to celebrate her life, contact Kim Webb at

30, from 2-4 pm. in La Grande.
