SHEEP CREEK VEGETATION MANAGEMENT PROJECT
Draft Decision Notice and Objection Period

La Grande Ranger District
The La Grande Ranger District recently completed an Environ-
mental Assessment and draft Decision Notice for the Sheep Creek
Vegetation Management Project, available on the web for review
at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=57625. The area eval-
uated consists of approximately 30,000 acres of National Forest
System lands on the La Grande Ranger District. The project area is
approximately 22 miles southwest of La Grande, Oregon in Town-
ships 5&6 South, Range 35 East.
The La Grande District Ranger and Responsible Official, Bill Gam-
ble, has decided to select Alternative 2. This alternative includes
the most comprehensive set of actions to prepare the Wildland
Urban Interface and surrounding landscape for wildfire while main-
taining high quality habitat for fish, connectivity for wildlife, and ac-
cess to the Winom-Frazier trail system.
This project is subject the objection process pursuant to 36 CFR
218, including subparts A and B, as a project not authorized under
the Healthy Forests Restoration Act. Only individuals or organiza-
tions that submitted specific written comments during a designated
opportunity for public participation (scoping or the 30-day public
comment period) may object (36 CFR 218.5). Notices of objection
must meet the requirements of 36 CFR 218.8(d); incorporation of
documents by reference is permitted only as provided for at 36
CFR 218.8(b).
