An animal enforce- ment officer secured the dogs and left a note for their owner. 10:56 a.m. — A resident on the 2700 block of L Avenue, La Grande, complained about barking dogs. An animal enforcement officer responded and counseled the dog’s owner. 11:18 a.m. — The Union County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft of a trailer at Walmart, 11619 Island Ave., Island City. A deputy responded and will follow up. 12:40 p.m. — La Grande police received a report of a burglary on the 1400 block of 21st Street. 8:28 p.m. — A caller reported a person was trying to start a fight at Benchwarmer’s Pub & Grill, 210 Depot St., La Grande. Officers responded and could not find the alleged troublemaker but tres- passed other members of his party from the bar. 9:56 p.m. — A Union County sheriff’s deputy responded to a residence on the 1000 block of Galveston Street, Elgin, for two peo- ple yelling at each other. The situation was verbal only and they resolved it for the night. 10:04 p.m. — La Grande police received a report of an assault that occurred in the afternoon on the 1400 block of Hall Street. An officer made contact and gave assistance. 11:49 p.m. — A resident on the 300 block of 20th Street reported loud music in the apartment below. An officer responded and the occupants agreed to turn down the volume. 6:05 a.m. — La Grande police received a report of a suspicious vehicle on the 2900 block of Walnut Street. Officers responded and determined it was stolen from Pendleton. 8:40 a.m. — La Grande police received a report for a sex crime. 8:51 a.m. — A caller on the 10300 block of White Birch Lane, Island City, reported a person died. A Union County sheriff’s dep- uty responded and took a report. 10:34 a.m. — The Union County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary on the 800 block of North 15th Avenue, Elgin. A deputy responded and took a report. 12:24 p.m. — The Union County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a possible sex crime in Union. A deputy made contact and took information. 12:59 p.m. — A caller asked La Grande police to check on the welfare of a resident at La Grande Rendezvous RV Resort, 2632 Bearco Loop. Officers responded and found the person had died. 6:06 p.m. — A caller on the 500 block of 20th Street, La Grande, reported suspicious circumstances. An officer made contact, took information and determined this was an ongoing civil dispute. 6:18 p.m. — A caller at Market Place Fresh Foods, 1912 Fourth St., La Grande, reported the theft of a cellphone. An officer made contact and took a report. 9:29 p.m. — Union County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 600 block of East Ash Street, Union, on a report of a domestic dis- turbance and arrested a 37-year-old man for harassment. Last year’s auction provided the remaining funds necessary to purchase the Methodist Church buildings for the new community center. Funds raised in the 2022 auction are targeted for supporting program development and building renova- tions such as updated electricity and roofing repairs. Scott E. Page La Grande Cecilia Bernadette Campbell Dwight E. Brooks Scott Edward Page, 62, of La Grande, died Jan. 16, 2022, at his home. Arrangements are by Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory, La Grande February 5, 1948 - January 8, 2022 October 25, 1929 - January 17, 2022 Cecilia Bernadette Campbell, 73, of La Grande, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at 10 a.m. Cecilia Bernadette Campbell was born Feb. 5, 1948, in Wash- ington, D.C., to Lonnie and Mary Ellen Campbell. Cecilia was the youngest of four chil- dren. She lived in Washington, D.C., until the early 1970s when she moved to Wallowa, Oregon, with her mother and stepfather. After her mother’s passing in 1976, she then moved to La Grande, Oregon, where she would live out the rest of her life. Cecilia worked for New Day Enterprises for several years until she retired. She worked at their ESP build- ing sewing clothes for prisoners, shredding papers and assembling caskets. She also worked at the Sandman Motel as a janitor. Cecilia was very kindhearted, free-spirited and en- joyed helping others. She enjoyed going on car rides to see wildlife, going to the Wildhorse Casino and shop- ping at Dollar Tree. She enjoyed going to camp and other social events held by New Day Enterprises. Ce- cilia was always up for something fun. One of her most favorite things to do was go on adventures with her dear friend and caregiver Chris. Their adventures sometimes included driving down the road with the windows down singing with the music up loud. She also enjoyed spend- ing holidays with her family. Cecilia liked to spend her free time looking at the newspaper, watching “Wheel of Fortune” or “Jeopar- dy” and rooting on her favorite football team, the Dal- las Cowboys. Her hobbies included gambling, singing, crossword puzzles, dancing and sewing, to name a few. Cecilia had many nicknames such as Cece, Sis and Pickle - Pickle being her favorite. She was loved by the many caregivers and staff of New Day Enterprises who provided foster care for many years leading up to her passing. Cecilia was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather, and brothers, Bruce, Jack and Jim Campbell. Cecilia is survived by six nieces, two nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service at the Union Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022. Dwight Elbert Brooks was born on Oct. 25, 1929, in Half- way, Oregon. He was raised and educated in Richland, graduat- ing from Eagle Valley High School in 1947. He mar- ried schoolmate Lorraine Thompson of Richland and together they had three children. Dwight met Donna Van Housen while working at Ronde Valley Lumber Company. They were married in Union, Oregon, at Donna’s folks’ house on March 10, 1967. Dwight spent his career working in the lumber indus- try. He worked at the Melvin Hess Sawmill in Richland, Oregon, Louisiana Pacific Lumber in Rexburg, Idaho, and Linton Plywood in Portland, Oregon. And 27 years at Ronde Valley Lumber in Union as a head sawyer. Dwight loved horseback riding, camping and golf- ing. He enjoyed the seasons of summer and fall and anything Western-themed. When asked about mem- orable times in his life, Dwight replied, “Raising my children and living with my wife. Donna made me hap- py.” Dwight will be remembered for not being afraid to work, helping others and his discipline to get things done. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Fifer; parents, Paul and Olga Brooks; brothers, Stanley and Charles Brooks; and son-in-law, Jim Collier. Joan Marie Finley February 13, 1934 - January 12, 2022 Joan Marie Finley passed away, peacefully, on Jan. 12, 2022, at age 87. Joan Marie Houston was born on Feb. 13, 1934, in La Grande, Oregon, to Lee David Houston (born in Oregon) and Marie Lillian Silk (born in Washington). Joan grew up in La Grande, graduating from high school in 1952. Joan married John David Finley, also of La Grande, at Pio- neer Park Church of God, on Aug. 16, 1952. Joan and John reared three sons: Dennis (now deceased), Randy and Bruce. Joan was a homemaker for the first part of her marriage. She and her husband enjoyed playing pi- nochle and other card games. Joan and John were quite good at putting on short skits, which entertained many, and they were active square dancers as well. Joan worked for the large electronic test and measur- ing equipment company Tektronix, in Beaverton, Ore- gon, for many years. Joan and John were Christians and active in the var- ious churches they attended; most recently, they attend- ed West Salem Christian Church in Salem, Oregon. Joan is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, John; two brothers, Don Houston and Roger Houston; and one son, Dennis Finley. Joan is survived by her brother, Mike Houston (and his wife, Jean); her two sons, Randy Finley and Bruce Finley (and his wife, Joanne Finley); and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Joan will be interred with her husband, John (a Navy veteran), at Willamette National Cemetery.
