Magazine B AKER CITY — Twila Lavery is turning her historic loca- tion into an art studio — but only on select days. Lavery is co-owner of The Ison House Bed & Brew, 1790 Washington Ave. During the holiday season, she began offering paint parties for small groups to create a painting with her guided instruction. She’s offering more parties in January — but no gnomes this time. Instead, the options are a silhouette of Bigfoot or a wintry scene of horses and trees. www.facebook.com/TheIsonHouse Twila Lavery leads paint parties, including one where participants go home with a painting of Bigfoot. “I’ll be doing these every month until we start concerts on the lawn again,” Lavery said. And even then, she plans to offer paint parties about once a month. www.facebook.com/TheIsonHouse Paint parties for “Winter Horses” are set for Jan. 9 and Jan. 15 at The Ison House. Lavery took every art class she could in college, and she ran her own studio in Milwaukie, Oregon, before moving to Baker City. “I just enjoy teaching,” she said. “I love to see the look on someone’s face when they look at their painting and say, ‘I just did that.’” PARTIES 11am-8pm Tuesday-Saturday Paint parties for “Winter Horses” are set for Jan. 9 and Jan. 15, both at 2 p.m. “Bigfoot” sessions are sched- uled for Jan. 8 and Jan. 16, both at 2 p.m. Registration is $40, which includes one adult beverage from the on-site pub. The cost for ages 13-20 is $35. No prior painting experience is necessary. To reserve a space at one of the parties, call or text Lavery at 503-894-4075 or email isonhousepub@gmail.com. She said groups can also reserve a private party — contact her for available dates.
