Phyllis was born Oct. 11, 1941, in Woodland, Wash- ington, to Ernest Goble and Helen Irene (Keith) Goble. She grew up in the logging communities of Western Washington and Oregon and attended junior high and high school in Estacada. Not a ‘Scrooge’ Christmas for the Elgin Lions Club The Observer ELGIN — It was any- thing but a “Scrooge” Christmas for the Elgin Lions, according to a press release. Members of the club ushered at the Elgin Opera House during December, took a deserving family Christmas shop- ping, purchased 25 turkeys for Christmas food boxes, gave out additional prizes at the club’s weekly bingo night including a Christmas ham, and purchased glasses for an individual in need. Members also generously gave items they made at home and purchased items through an auction that raised more than $1,700 for the club’s support of the community. LA GRANDE — Community Band Northeast will resume rehearsals on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, in Groth Recital Hall, in Loso Hall at EOU in La Grande. The group’s fi rst con- cert will be March 14.
