Go! staff L A GRANDE — Art Center East’s capital campaign to install an ADA-accessible lift in their building aims to make the art center and its activities avail- able to everyone, regardless of mobility challenges. According to a press release, through Dec. 31, 2021, commu- nity members can participate in end-of-year giving by donating, in any amount, toward ACE’s $50,000 goal. Community mem- bers may donate via AmazonS- mile, Venmo, PayPal, in person, by phone, by check mailed to ACE (P.O. Box 541, La Grande, 97850), or at www.artcentereast. org/support/donate/#donate. Art Center East occupies the 1913 Carnegie Library building owned by the City of La Grande at 1006 Penn Ave. Following a 2018 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) assessment and a community survey in which 95% of respondents indicated sup- port for adding an elevator or lift to the ACE facility, the organiza- tion began to collect resources for construction. ACE started the ADA reno- vation project with assistance from Matt Bosch, an engineer who donated concept draw- ings and identifi ed the lift type that will be installed where the library book lift once operated. Cassie Hibbert, a local architect, reviewed the concept draw- ings pro bono, and contractor Kirby Nagelhout Construction made a site visit and donated the project estimate. The total cost estimate is approximately $300,000 for the installation of a lift and necessary renovations and improvements. The city of La Grande has pledged a $50,000 cash match. Community members have contributed more than $20,000 so far, including a recent anony- mous single donation of $10,000. Grants awarded for this project include $24,400 from the Oregon Cultural Trust and $10,000 from the Union Pacifi c Foundation. www.artcentereast.org THE ARTS AROUND EASTERN OREGON
