Crossroads Carnegie Art Center

AKER CITY — Crossroads
Carnegie Art Center is off er-
ing some new art classes and
familiar favorites in the coming
months. To register, go to www.
crossroads-arts.org, call 541-
523-5369, or stop by the center
at 2020 Auburn Ave. Scholar-
ships are available. Here’s a look
at the schedule:
PORTRAIT PAINTING
WITH ACRYLIC
Brian Vegter will lead this
seven-week course on Tues-
day evenings from Dec. 28
to Feb. 8. Sessions are from
5:30-7:30 p.m. in the downstairs
studio. This is for ages 15 and
older, beginner to experienced
painters. Cost is $175 members
or $262.50 nonmembers. The
focus will be on painting and
the use of acrylic paints, and
projectors can and will be used
to get subjects onto the canvas.
Additionally, freehand tech-
niques will also be discussed
and taught for students to learn
ways of obtaining accurate
proportions when a projector
isn’t readily at hand. Supplies
are included for the fi rst three
paintings students will create
during the class.

ages 16 and older. Students will
be introduced to the fundamen-
tal steps for making bowls on
the pottery wheel. Cost is $45
members or $67.50 nonmem-
bers. There is also a $10 fee for
fi ring and clay.
INTERMEDIATE WHEEL
THROWING
Debbie Penning will lead this
three-session class on Mon-
days in January. Classes on Jan.
3 and 10 are from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The fi nal class on Jan. 24 is
from 7-8 p.m. This is for ages 16
and older. Participants must be
able to successfully center clay
without assistance. Cost is $75
members or $112.50 nonmem-
bers. There is also a $10 fee for
fi ring and clay.

24 from 5:30-6:45 p.m. This is for

this class for ages 6-8 on
Tuesdays from Jan. 4 to Feb.
22, from 4-5 p.m. This basic
classical ballet class for young
beginning dancers will focus on
fundamental skills that provide
groundwork for all styles of
dance with an emphasis on sim-
ple positions and movements at
the barre, in center and across
the fl oor. Cost is $64 members
or $96 nonmembers.
