He’s also helped me with my blocks a bit. And then coach (Dan) Moody helped me with that. They are also helping me run on my toes. (Jericho) was training me in areas like that.” With that help, Ransom was able to make strides in the sport more quickly than Jericho. “It was fun to be able to see him improve in those areas much faster than I did,” Jericho said. The Pac-12 Confer- ence announced June 3, 2021, a series of measures to strengthen and grow the sport of wrestling in the conference, including an initiative to add members to its wrestling ranks beyond the current member- ship of six programs for the fi rst time in more than a decade. WRESTLING Continued from Page 7A in the sport for the next generation of young athletes on the West Coast. “This is an exciting ini- tiative that not only sta- bilizes wrestling on the West Coast but shows the Pac-12 Conference’s com- mitment to expanding Divi- sion 1 wrestling,” Oregon State coach Chris Pendleton said. “I’m looking forward to adding more teams, and together we can all push the Pac-12 Conference to new heights.” “It is our pleasure to join the Pac-12 Conference and its wrestling community in this important initiative to add future league affi li- ates,” added Ray Anderson, Arizona State Vice Pres- ident for University Ath- letics. “These measures outlined by the conference are an important fi rst step in making this happen. The sport of wrestling has always been an important part of Sun Devil athletics legend and lore. We must do everything in our power to strengthen and grow the sport of wrestling, espe- cially on the West Coast where it is so essential to our stability. They both felt amazed that it did, indeed, take place, and that they got to share in several mem- orable moments in the shortened season. “I do think it is amazing both of us were able to compete this year,” Jericho said. “Going into my senior year, I didn’t think it was going to happen. I didn’t think I would get this opportunity.” Added Ransom: “It’s exciting for me to think I just ran my (freshman) year despite COVID. I got to play in track (and) I got to hand off to him.” WE’RE Hours Mon-Fri: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sat: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM HERE TO 2306 Adams Ave La Grande, OR 97850 (541) 963-8411 HELP We're just west of I-84 (exit 261) on Adams Ave at 20th St. VISIT US ON THE WEB AT: ON THE SLATE www.LaGrandeObserver.com FIELD TEST Candidates Wanted TUESDAY, JUNE 8 Prep boys basketball Joseph at Pine Eagle, 5 p.m. Powder Valley at Imbler, 5:30 p.m. La Grande at Baker, 7:30 p.m. Union at Enterprise, 7:30 p.m. Prep girls basketball Powder Valley at Imbler, 4 p.m. La Grande at Baker, 6 p.m. Union at Enterprise, 6 p.m. Joseph at Echo, 6 p.m. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9 Prep boys basketball Burns at Powder Valley, 2:30 p.m. Joseph at Ontario, 6:30 p.m. Enterprise at Imbler, 7 p.m. Nixyaawii at Baker, 7:30 p.m. Prep girls basketball Burns at Powder Valley, 1 p.m. Burns vs. Union, at Powder Valley High School, 4 p.m. Joseph at Ontario, 5 p.m. Enterprise at Imbler, 5:30 p.m. Nixyaawii at Baker, 6 p.m. Prep wrestling McLoughlin/Weston-McEwen vs. La Grande Dual Meet, TBD Pendleton vs. La Grande Dual Meet, TBD THURSDAY, JUNE 10 Prep boys basketball Union at La Grande, 6 p.m. Enterprise at Joseph, 6:30 p.m. Powder Valley at Nixyaawii, 7:30 p.m. Prep girls basketball Union at La Grande, 4:30 p.m. Powder Valley at Nixyaawii, 6 p.m. FRIDAY, JUNE 11 Prep boys basketball Union at Wallowa, 6:30 p.m. Prep girls basketball Union at Wallowa, 5 p.m. Ontario at La Grande, 7 p.m. SATURDAY, JUNE 12 Prep boys basketball Pine Eagle at Enterprise, noon Wallowa at Enterprise, 3 p.m. Prep girls basketball Wallowa at Enterprise, 1:30 p.m. Prep wrestling La Grande at 4A-SD4 District Wrestling Championship, La Grande, 10 a.m. (GENERAL LOCATION HERE) and the W URGENT NOTICE: surrounding areas.
