SPORTS 8A — THE OBSERVER 8 EOU players make all- American teams SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2021 La Grande High softball pummels Baker Bulldogs The Observer LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon Univer- sity on Wednesday, May 5, announced several of its student athletes achieved all-America honors. Three made the National Association of Intercolle- giate Athletics all-America team in volleyball, the American Football Coaches Association for the NAIA named a trio of players for recognition as well and two received members of the EOU women’s soccer team received all-American hon- orable mentions. Cambree Scott, Kiley McMurtrey and Breanna Shaff er on EOU’s volley- ball team made the cut for the all-America team. The three selections push EOU’s total for volleyball to 20 all-Americans under head coach Kaki McLean Morehead. The Mountaineers fi n- ished the 2020 season with a 19-2 overall record and went undefeated in confer- ence play at 14-0, which was a fi rst in program his- tory. The Mountaineers ranked in the top 10 all season and made it to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Quarterfi nals. Three members of EOU’s football team received all-American honors from the American Football Coaches Associ- ation for the NAIA. Chase Van Wyck made fi rst team all-American at defensive line. PJ Schubert made the second team all-America squad at off ensive line. And quarterback Kai Quinn received an honorable men- tion. The Mountaineers fi n- ished the season at 3-1 And EOU wom- en’s soccer players Sarah Mitchell and Cassidy Quick received honorable mention on the NAIA all-America team.
