6A — THE OBSERVER SaTuRday, May 8, 2021 THANK YOU! Nurses from across the state shared photos from their pandemic year. From long shifts and caring for their communities, to standing together to support their colleagues during the rough times, to graduating from nursing school, to finding a partner to share their lives with, to finding time to be with their families, Oregon nurses have exemplified the Year of the Nurse. Thank you for everything you do— today, tomorrow and every day. The Oregon Nurses Association extends our deepest, heartfelt thanks to each and every member of our state’s nursing profession. During National Nurses Week, May 6-12, we honor the work of every nurse in keeping our communities healthy and safe. This past year has shown every Oregonian how brave, committed, professional, and compassionate you are; in the face of an unprecedented health crisis, nurses have stepped up to the challenge and saved lives. We all owe you a debt of gratitude. And to the nurses of color in our state, we see you. This pandemic has disproportionately impacted communities of color, and that means nurses of color have had to bear an even greater burden. ONA is committed to doing everything we can to address systemic disparities in health access for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) communities, and to finding ways of supporting all nurses in Oregon during these extremely difficult times.
