Thursday, April 29, 2021 GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon Classes continue at Crossroads Carnegie BAKER CITY — Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker City continues to offer weekly classes while following COVID-19 safety protocols of face coverings and social distance between students. All classes are held at the art center, 2020 Auburn Ave. Yearly memberships to Cross- roads are $36 for individuals, $24 for seniors and $60 for a family (other options can be found on www.crossroads-arts.org. Here is a schedule of current offerings: Getting Grounded & Feeling Better Debbie Friedman leads this simple move- ment class designed to increase fi tness and help reduce stress. The class meets Mondays and Thurs- days 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the upstairs studio. Cost is $8 members, $12 nonmembers. Those attending should wear comfort- able clothing. Moves are aimed to build core strength, increase fl exibility and work with breath and energy. Learn to Love Watercolor & Pastels Becky Mancino Litke teaches two two-hour sessions of this class every Wednesday: 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. Participants can join one or both — each session is considered a separate class. Cost is $16 per session for mem- bers or $24 for nonmembers. Litke will discuss elements to include in a painting, what to leave out, how to use photos as reference and how to position a subject on paper for visual impact. Litke studied under several in- ternational artists and is an active fi ne artist herself. She has been an instructor for Crossroads for almost 20 years. Young Artists’ Studio Paul Hoelscher leads this two- hour class on Fridays at 1:45 p.m. for ages 10 and older. Cost per session is $16 for members or $24 for nonmembers. Or purchase four sessions for $54 members, $86 nonmembers. Young artists learn and refi ne skills and work in the medium that most interests them. Media include acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, conte, colored pencil and clay sculpture. Call to artists: ART AT THE CROSSROADS BAKER CITY — Crossroads Carnegie Art Center is getting the word out early about the 23rd annual Art at the Crossroads regional art exhibit. The show opens Sept. 3. Art at the Crossroads is open to professional and amateur artists age 18 and older. Each artist may submit up to three total pieces not previously shown at a Crossroads open show. Entry fee per artist is $20 for Crossroads members, or $25 for nonmembers. Monetary prizes and awards will be presented. A People’s Choice award will be selected by the community and patrons who attend the opening reception on Sept. 3 and cast a vote by 8 p.m. Guidelines, procedures and restrictions will be followed based on the COVID-19 precautions at that time. Specifi cs Adult Open Studio Paul Hoelscher leads this two- hour class for adults Saturdays at 1 p.m. Cost per session is $16 for members or $24 for nonmembers. Or purchase four sessions for $54 members, $86 nonmembers. The goal of this class is to offer an ongoing studio opportunity for people interested in any art medium or technique. Hoelscher’s versatility will be encouraging in whatever medium interests each student. 3 Paintings must be dry and ready to hang. Submitted work must be of original design and high quality. Work that is manufactured, im- ported, reproductions made from kits, or work created under the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center/Contributed Photos Steve Wadner’s mixed media creation “Diogenes”earned Best of Show in the 2020 Art at the Crossroads exhibit held at the Baker City art center. The 2021 exhibit will open Sept. 1. supervision of an instructor will not be eligible. This is free and open to the public. The show closes Sept. 25.
