Meetings
• PENDLETON — The Board of Direc-
tors of the InterMountain Education
Service District will meet for a regular
session Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at
4 p.m. at the IMESD, 2001 S.W. Nye
Ave., Pendleton. Discussion will include
the 2021-22 budget and the Oregon
Association of Education Service Dis-
trict Task Force on Equity and Racial
Justice. The IMESD serves Umatilla,
Union, Baker and Morrow counties.
• LA GRANDE — The La Grande School
District board is holding a special
board meeting and work session
beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April
28, in the Central Elementary School
library, 701 H Ave., to discuss the dis-
trict’s unfunded accrued liability.
The agenda includes a public forum.
The meeting will be open to the
public online and by phone. Access

“Larry” Keff er, 79, of La
Grande, died April 13 at
Grande Ronde Hospital.
A graveside
service will
be held April
24 at 2 p.m.
at Grand-
view Cem-
etery, La Grande. The
family requests casual
dress. Attendees must
wear a mask and practice
social distancing to meet
COVID-19 guidelines.
Known as Larry, he
was born May 23, 1941, in
La Grande, to Leslie and
Edna (Wilson) Keff er. He
was raised in La Grande
and attended Ackerman
Grade School and gradu-
ated from La Grande High
School. Larry served in the
U.S. National Guard for 20
years. He was married to
Carol Gunderson and they
later divorced.
Larry owned and oper-
ated Trotter’s Men’s Store
in La Grande. He did not
know any strangers, and
his door was always open.
Larry loved his dogs. He
enjoyed hunting, fi shing
and golfi ng.
Surviving relatives
include his children and
their spouses, Michael Alan
and Laura Keff er of Bea-
verton, Christian Wallace
Keff er of La Grande, and
Molli and Brady Angelos
of Elgin; brother and sis-
ter-in-law, Alan H. and Jan
Keff er of La Grande; fi ve
grandchildren; and three
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, Leslie
and Edna Keff er.
In lieu of fl owers,
memorial contributions
may be made to the Blue
Mountain Humane Asso-
ciation, 3212 Highway 30,
La Grande 97850.

Writing Project virtual gathering
begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 20,
via Zoom, featuring Amelia Diaz
Ettinger of Summerville. Ettinger,
who was born in Mexico and raised
in Puerto Rico, has published poetry
and short stories. Her most recent
publication, the chapbook “Fossils
on a Red Flag,” explores the com-
plexity of emotions and historical
moments of the colonialism present
in Culebra, a small municipality of
Puerto Rico.
The ACE Writing Project is a free
series of monthly author readings.
An open mic for sharing original
work follows the featured reading.
Writers of all genres are welcome to

7:55 a.m. — The Union
County Sheriff ’s Offi ce
received a complaint about
an animal from the area of
66900 Miller Lane, Union.
An animal enforcement
offi cer responded and pro-
vided options.
11:09 a.m. — La
Grande police and emer-
gency services responded
to a single vehicle crash
at N Avenue and Cherry
Street. Police took a
report.
12:59 p.m. — The La
Grande Police Department
arrested 32-year-old Justin
Harold Sheline on a war-
rant for mail theft, iden-
tity theft, and second-de-
gree forgery and theft.
The arrest occurred at the
Union County Correc-
tional Facility, La Grande,
where Sheline already was
in custody.
7:43 p.m. — A caller
on the 2000 block of
Walnut Street, La Grande,
reported the theft of a
vehicle. An offi cer made
contact and took a report.
8:51 p.m. — La Grande
police responded to the
fi rst block of Depot Street
on a disturbance domestic
call. Police arrested
Richard Francis Grieco
II, 52, for fourth-degree
domestic violence assault.
SATURDAY, APRIL 17
3:07 a.m. — La Grande
police responded to a res-
idence on the 2000 block
of Gekeler Lane for a dis-
turbance domestic call.
An offi cer made contact
and provided information
about domestic violence
services.
5 a.m. — La Grande
police responded to a
domestic disturbance at
a residence on the 1800
block of G Avenue. Offi -
cers separated the parties.
9:55 a.m. — A caller
reported a theft of the
1500 block of Adams
Avenue. An offi cer
responded and gave a
warning for initiating a
false report.
2:10 p.m. — The Union
County Sheriff ’s Offi ce
responded to a report of
a restraining order vio-
lation on the 700 block
of North Ninth Avenue,
Elgin. Deputies arrested
Drake Allen Christensen,
39, on a restraining order
violation.
2:20 p.m. — Local law
enforcement responded
to the Island City Market,
10101 W. First St., on a
report of a domestic dis-
turbance. Offi cers sep-
arated the parties and
determined this situation
did not rise to the level of
a crime.
5:25 p.m. — The Union
County Sheriff ’s Offi ce
received a report that a
vehicle crashed into a
telephone pole at Divi-
sion Street and North 12th
Avenue, Elgin. A deputy
responded and cited a
16-year-old male for
driving under the infl u-
ence of intoxicants and
hit-and-run.
5:37 p.m. — A La
Grande resident on the
1100 block of Adams
Avenue reported the theft
of a fi rearm.
10:24 p.m. — La
Grande police received
a complaint about loud
music at a residence
on the 2000 block of
Gekeler Lane. An offi cer
responded and resolved
the situation.
SUNDAY, APRIL 18
8:55 a.m. — The Union
County Sheriff ’s Offi ce
arrested Michael Patrick
Piggott, 23, of La Grande,
for unlawful use of a
credit card and fi rst-de-
gree theft.
2:40 p.m. — La Grande
police responded to the
2100 block of Fir Street
on a report of a civil dis-
turbance. An offi cer made
contact and explained
options.
10:11 p.m. — A resi-
dent on the 900 block of
Newport Avenue, Imbler,
reported a window was
shot out. A Union County
sheriff ’s deputy responded
but could not determine
how the window was dam-
aged and will follow up.
11:05 p.m. — The
Union County Sheriff ’s
Offi ce arrested Shawn
Michael McAdams, 29,
for third-degree escape,
interfering with a peace
offi cer, giving false infor-
mation to a peace offi cer,
fi rst-degree criminal tres-
pass, second-degree crim-
inal trespass, second-de-
gree disorderly conduct
and misdemeanor driving
while suspended.
EOFF off ers special screening

LA GRANDE — The
Eastern Oregon Film Fes-
tival is presenting the fi lm
“Beast Beast” on Friday,
April 23, at 7:30 p.m.
Afterward, the audience
can participate in a live
virtual Q&A with the
maker of the fi lm, Danny
Madden.
EOFF is presenting
“Beast Beast” online as
well as to 25 people in
person at HQ, 112 Depot
St, La Grande.
Madden adapted his
award-winning short fi lm
“Krista” into an “unset-
tling feature exploration of
adolescence, performance
and identity,” according
to a press release from
EOFF. “Newcomer Shirley
Chen gives a remarkable
breakout performance,
crackling with the vulner-
ability and joy of fi rst love,
while Will Madden and
Jose Angeles deliver dis-
quieting turns as young
men grasping for individu-
ality in an uncertain time.”
The screening is part of
the “Path to The Liberty
Theatre Screening Series,”
a campaign to raise funds
for EOFF’s use of the
under-restoration historic
Liberty Theatre in down-
town La Grande. The fi lm
festival aims to partner
with the historic theater for
the 2021 Eastern Oregon
Film Festival planned for
October. The EOFF web-
site states the Liberty The-
atre Foundation is working
to get the space ready for
the public and to fi nalize
funding for the installation
of the a cinema system.
The Eastern Oregon
Film Festival also reported
it will provide monthly
programming at the Lib-
erty following the festival
and plans to engage with
more community and vis-
itors through a curated
series of fi lm.
