Hydrant flushing to
continue in Island City
iSlaNd City — island City has
extended its schedule for hydrant
flushing until Friday, april 23. the
flushing is necessary to ensure
adequate water volume and
pressure for fire suppression and to
detect any potential problems in the
water system. residents who detect
discoloration or sediment in their
water are instructed to let an outside
faucet or a cold-water bathtub fau-
cet run until the water has cleared.

Alice Marie Literal, 61,
of Union, died April 2 at
Grande Ronde Hospital. A
celebration of her life was
held April 10.
Alice was
born April
26, 1959, in
Boise, Idaho,
to Robert and
Elizabeth
(Churchill)
Raldolph. She resided in
Boise, Idaho, and in Union.
Alice was a devoted
wife and mother. She was
an avid hunter, fisher,
camper, gardener and
seamstress. She also
enjoyed coaching T-ball.
Surviving relatives
include her children,
Rochelle Hammond and
husband, Matt, of Union,
Raychelle McLean of La
Grande, and Jerry Keagle
Jr. of North Powder; sister,
Lillian Smith; brother,
Frank Randolph; and 18
grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her parents,
Robert and Elizabeth;

and Mike Randolph; and

Edward F. Stradley
1960-2021 • North powder
Edward F. Stradley,
60, of North Powder, died
March 5 at his residence. At
his request, there will not
be a service.
Edward was born April
18, 1960, in Caldwell,
Idaho, to David and Kath-
erine (Stapton) Stradley. In
high school, he was on the
football and baseball teams.
One of his favorite things
to do was draw, and he also
played pool.
Surviving relatives
include his father, David;
brothers, Harry and
Gregory of North Powder;
and uncles, Fred Halbreg
and Eddie Halbreg.
He was preceded in
death by his siblings,
David, Scott, Rick, Duane,
Terry, Sherie and Sue.

Joseph Perez
1956-2021 • la Grande
Joseph Perez, 64, of La
Grande, died March 30. A
celebration of his life will
be held May
1 at 11 a.m. in
Corona Del
Mar, Cali-
fornia. A local
celebration
of life will take place at a
later date.
Joseph was born Dec.
25, 1956, in Manhattan,
New York, to Ana and
Eaulalio Perez. He entered
the U.S. Marine Corps
in 1975 and obtained the
rank of sergeant. Due to
an injury he was unable to
continue his service in the
Marine Corps as he had
planned.
After his honorable dis-
charge from the Marine
Corps, Joseph started his
career at Lockheed Martin,
Ontario, California, in
1985 as an aerospace engi-
neer. As he continued his
education he was then
transferred to Lockheed
Martin Skunk Works and
worked on many classified
projects as a mechanical
engineer.
On Nov. 11, 1978,
Joseph married Bonnie
Jean Renault. They raised

Lynn and Erica Renee.
Joseph and Bonnie have
lived in La Grande since
2014.
Joseph had passion for
family, hunting, fishing,
music, shooting, martial
arts, motorcycles, poker
and so much more. He was
an avid collector of skulls,
guns, cars and Threes
Stooges memorabilia.
Joseph was an excellent
role model and shared his
love for all things with his
family and anyone he came
in contact with. He was
known for his quick wit
and infectious smile and
was cherished by many as
a father figure.
Surviving relatives
include his mother, Ana
Perez; brother, Jorge
Perez; wife of more than
42 years, Bonnie Perez;
daughters, Jennifer Grace
and Erica Perez; and eight
grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

died March 3 at his home. A

to have a love of trees and
the woods his entire life.
He enjoyed hunting for deer
and liked music.
In 2010 Walter moved
from New York to La
Grande to be near his
dear friends and care-
takers, Patricia and Michael
Corcoran.
Walter was a member
of the Jehovah’s Witnesses
in both New York and La
Grande. He was a member
of the North Side Jehovah’s
Heritage Train rolls through La Grande

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14
8:37 a.m. — A caller
reported goats were loose
on the 1300 block of South
Third Street, Union.
1:46 p.m. — A caller
reported the possible theft
of a companion animal on
the 100 block of West Arch
Street, Union.
4:02 p.m. — La Grande
police received a report of
illegal dumping of garbage
on the 1400 block of Fourth
Street. An officer responded
and located a suspect, who
removed the trash.
4:25 p.m. — A caller on
the 1600 block of Carolyn
Terrace, Elgin, reported
an ongoing problem with a
teen burning garbage along
the ditch line. A Union
County sheriff’s deputy
responded and did not
observe any burned garbage
but advised the caller to
report when it happens.
5:34 p.m. — The Union
County Sheriff’s Office
received a report of an
aggressive dog on the 800
block of North First Street,
Union. An animal enforce-
ment officer responded and
warned the dog owner.
7:11 p.m. — A resident
on the 1100 block of Bryan
Street, Cove, reported
youths shooting airsoft
guns at a house. A Union
County sheriff’s deputy
responded, contacted the
parents of the juveniles and
resolved the situation.
9:45 p.m. — A Union
County sheriff’s deputy
responded to the Summer-
ville Store and Tavern, 301
Main St., Summerville, for
a male who was out of con-
trol. The deputy trespassed
the subject, who left.
10:41 p.m. — La Grande
police responded to the 700
block of Adams Avenue
on a complaint about loud
music and people yelling
in the street. Officers did
not hear any loud noises
but contacted the tenant
who said they would keep
it down.

Grande police officer
responded to the 800 block
of 14th Street to check a
building that had a light on
inside. The officer found no
problems at the site.
8:36 a.m. — A caller
asked to speak to an officer
about an assault at the Pio-
neer SK8 Park. An officer
made contact and took a
report.
11:49 a.m. — The Union
County Sheriff’s Office
received a request for a wel-
fare check on a Cove resi-
dent. A deputy responded
and everything was fine.
7:13 p.m. — A La
Grande resident reported
possible stalking. An officer
made contact and referred
the situation to the courts.
Police also agreed to pro-
vide extra patrol.
8:50 p.m. — Law
enforcement responded to
the 600 block of Second
Street, Cove, on a report of
a disturbance. Police found
the matter did not rise to a
level of mandatory arrest.
Walter Harrison Hamm
June 19, 1953 - March 30, 2021
Walter Harrison Hamm passed
away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at
his home in Pendleton surrounded
by his family and friends. Walt was
born June 19, 1953 to Jane and
William Hamm.
Walt worked and retired from
the Eastern Oregon Hospital and
Training Center in Pendleton,
Oregon where he met many life-
long friends.
He is survived by his sisters; Sara Jane Williamson
and Barbara Brown and brother Joseph Hamm all of La
Grande, OR. Walt was a great uncle to his nieces and
nephews.
Walt was married for 35 years to Nancy and they
have two children; Heather Thornburg and Guy
Hamm. He was a grandfather to Tanner Walczyk, Sean
Simmons, Mallory Thornburg, Brodie Bass, Hayden
Hamm, MacKenzie Baird and Arya Hamm and a
great-grandfather to Maliki Simmons.
Walt spent his time hunting and fishing with his
family and friends. He was known for telling endless
jokes and singing songs around the campfire.
Walt was a very genuine person with a huge heart.
He never came across someone he didn’t like.
