Main St., Joseph. “The Youth Arts Festival is a great way to celebrate Wallowa Valley students’ artwork, and we want to show off all the tal- ents in the safest way possible. Last year, we had to cancel the event due to COVID-19, but with caution, I think we can make the event fun,” said the Josephy Center’s executive director, Cheryl Coughlan, about this year’s festival. The opening day celebration Saturday runs from noon to 5 p.m. The youth artwork will be on display, art bags will be given out to visitors, and awards for artists and their creations will be presented. Refreshments and snacks, activities and music round out the festivities. The Wallowa Valley Youth Arts Festival has always been under the umbrella of the Wallowa Valley Arts Council. In fall of 2019, the Arts Council merged with the Josephy Center, and this year’s event will be the first official Wallowa Valley Youth Arts Festival under the Josephy Center’s wings. The event is co-sponsored by Building Healthy Families and is made possible by the support of Soroptimist of Wallowa County and other community organizations and individuals. “The kiddos are really excited to have the Youth Arts Festi- val back so they can show off their works and see what others are creating,” said Pamela Beach, one of the Josephy Center’s art instructors. “It’s a long time coming and I’m thrilled to see what kids have been creating.” With the public’s safety in mind, the gallery will be limited to 30 visitors at a time and visitors must wear masks while in the building. The art will be on display through April 17 and may be viewed next week from noon to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. next Saturday.
