• COVE — The Cove City Council
will meet Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m.
at Cove City Hall, 504 Alder St. The
council will hold its fi rst reading of
Ordinance 1-2021, defi ning and pro-
hibiting nuisances, which would
replace previous regulations. Copies
of the ordinance are available at the
city offi ce.
•LA GRANDE — The La Grande City
Council will meet Wednesday, April
7, at 6 p.m. Councilors will participate
in the session by electronic commu-
nication, and the public may view the
proceedings on the La Grande Alive
website at www.lagrandealive.tv/city-
events or on the Eastern Oregon Alive.

protest meeting is tonight
PERRY — A meeting regarding
the proposed Robbs Hill rock quarry
will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday,
April 1, at the old school in Lower
Perry. The meeting is open to all who
are concerned about the quarry’s
potential impact.

1931-2021 • Union
Virginia Rose Anderson,
89, of Union, died March
21 at her home in High
Valley from natural causes.
A memorial service will be
held April 3 at 1 p.m. at the
Union Sportsman Club on
Highway 203.
Virginia,
also known as
“Ginny,” was
born July 15,
1931, in Union,
to Harold and
Emily (Draper)
Savage. She resided in High
Valley for most of her life.
She attended Union High
School and after gradua-
tion married her husband of
67 years, Robert “Bob” N.
Anderson.
Virginia was a loving
mother and homemaker.
She enjoyed knitting, cro-
cheting, sewing, hunting,
fi shing, camping and loving
her 12 grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren and 21
nieces and nephews.
Surviving relatives
include her children and
their spouses, Linda Kay

LA GRANDE — The La Grande
Rifl e and Pistol Club is hosting a .22
rimfi re silhouette shoot Sunday,
April 4, at the club’s river range on
Highway 244 (I-84 exit 252, then
3 miles west on the Ukiah-Hilgard
Highway). The event is open to the
public and begins at 9 a.m. Entry
fee is $5. Eye and ear protection are
required. Rifl es or pistols, with no
restrictions on sights.

Eastern Oregon

BAKER CITY — The
organization for shifting
Oregon’s border to create
the state of Greater Idaho
is holding rallies in Eastern
Oregon.
Mike McCarter, pres-
ident of political action
committee Move Oregon’s
Border, in a press release
announced the organiza-
tion will carry out most of
its work under the Citizens
for Greater Idaho and hold
rallies in the fi ve counties
that will have border reloca-
tion on their May 18 ballots:
Baker, Grant, Lake, Mal-
heur and Sherman.
The Baker County rally
begins at 1 p.m. Saturday,
April 3, at The Squeaky
Stirrup, 2110 Broadway St.,
Baker City.

the father of her children.
Elizabeth loved her chil-
dren and her animals with
all of her heart. She would
talk about her children to
people who were close to
her. Elizabeth was also a
huge animal person. She
was always rescuing some
sort of animal even if she
was allergic to it. She also
loved photography.

reported a tree and power

Road west of Elgin.
10:07 a.m. — A caller
reported possible animal
abuse on the 700 block of
North Bellwood Street,
Union. An animal enforce-
ment offi cer responded and
performed a welfare check.
12:51 p.m. — A caller
reported possible animal
abuse on the 1200 block of
Jasper Street, Cove.
1:53 p.m. — A caller
reported possible animal
abuse at 12th Street and H
Avenue, La Grande.
5:24 p.m. — La Grande
police received a report of
fraud from the 300 block
of 12th Street. An offi cer
responded and took a
report.
9:48 p.m. — The Union
County Sheriff ’s Offi ce
received a report of a dis-
turbance on the 63200
block of Highway 203,
La Grande. A deputy
responded and found this
was a civil situation.

2:22 a.m. — A Union
County sheriff ’s deputy
responded to a crash on the
eastbound side of Interstate
84 near milepost 244 and
took a report.
4:23 a.m. — A caller
reported a transient
sleeping in the laundry
room of apartments on
the 2000 block of Second
Street, La Grande. An
offi cer responded and the
subject left.
7:27 a.m. — La Grande
parking enforcement had a
vehicle towed from the 800
block of Z Avenue.
9:56 a.m. — A caller on
the 1600 block of Gekeler
Lane, La Grande, reported
mail theft. An offi cer
searched the area but did
not fi nd the suspect.
2:56 p.m. — A caller
reported a transient camp
on Mount Emily Road,
Island City.
3:41 p.m. — A caller
reported one juvenile
chased another on the 1500
block of Adams Avenue,
La Grande. The caller did
not want follow-up contact
from police.
7:30 p.m. — La Grande
police responded to the
1800 block of Z Avenue
for a disturbance. Offi cers
counseled the parties.
10:07 p.m. — La
Grande police responded
to the 1800 block of Fourth
Street for a disturbance
and counseled the people
involved.

Blake Allen Nelson
May 6, 1996 - March 23, 2021
On Tuesday March 23rd, 2021,
Blake Allen Nelson of Elgin/La-
Grande passed away at age 24. He
was a loving son, grandson, broth-
er, nephew, cousin and friend.
Blake was born on May 6th,
1996 in Carmichael, California,
to Michael and Pauline (Linde)
Nelson. He was the proudest older
brother of 7 younger siblings. Blake was a Wildland
Firefighter and enjoyed the adventure of learning and
exploring new places.
His eyes were as blue as a summer’s sky and could
melt your heart with a single glance. He had an infec-
tious smile and laugh.
Blake was very well mannered, humble, loving, funny
and had a heart of gold! He loved spending time with
his family and friends, going up in the mountains
shooting, playing Xbox and doing as he would say his
“Cowboy Stuff ”.
Blake “Lil Man” is survived by his parents; grandpar-
ents Richard and Sandra Nelson of Auburn, California
and Paul Hicks of La Grande; his 7 siblings; aunts,
uncles and many cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his great-grandma Myr-
tle Nelson; uncle Clint Siefker Sr; and grandma Cheryl
Hicks.
There will be a celebration of Blake’s life held at a
later date.
