(Wood) Henry 1956-2021 • La Grande Charity LaNeva Henry, 64, of La Grande, died Feb. 13 in Boise, Idaho, after suffering a brain aneurysm and stroke. A memorial ser- vice will be held March 20 at 11 a.m. at the La Grande Church of Christ. Charity was born Sept. 3, 1956, in Ashland, to Ralph Albert and Char- lotte Lavona (Johnson) Wood. She was the youngest of fi ve children and the only daughter. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1974. After high school, Charity attended Columbia Christian College in Port- land, where she began dating Richard Henry of La Grande. Richard and Charity were married Aug. 8, 1975, and settled in La Grande. Richard worked for Union Pacifi c Railroad as a brakeman and Charity began fi nding various char- itable organizations to help. She spent several years as a coach for the Special Olym- pics track and fi eld teams and the cross-country skiing team in Union County. She helped out at the La Grande Church of Christ as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association. Richard and Charity shared several passions, but their longest was their involvement with Union County Search and Rescue, joining in 1989. They became Man-Tracker 2 cer- tifi ed, which required hun- dreds of hours of training and allowed them to teach others the skills they had learned. Charity used her outgoing nature to become a presenter of Lost in the Woods, an in-school training program for chil- dren that taught them what to do if they ever became lost. Surviving relatives include her husband, Richard Henry of La Grande; son and daugh- ter-in-law, Roy and Larina Henry of La Grande; daughter and son-in-law, Rikki and Chris Martin of Fort Carson, Colo- rado; three grandchildren; mother, Charlotte Wood of La Grande; brothers and sis- ters-in-law, John and Diana Wood of Dayton, Ohio, James and Maritza Wood of Uvalde, Texas, and Thomas and Malinda Wood of Ash- land; fi ve aunts, 18 nieces and nephews, and dozens of cousins; and in-laws, Glen and Verla Henry of La Grande. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Albert Wood, and brother, Timothy Joel Wood. The deputy made contact and will follow up. 8:22 a.m. — A caller reported a disturbance involving a juvenile on the 1300 block of Jasper Street, Cove. Union County sheriff’s dep- uties responded and separated the parties. 9:48 a.m. — La Grande police received a report of a possible sex crime. 11:16 a.m. — Local law enforcement responded to a res- idence on the 1900 block of H Avenue for a domestic disturbance call and arrested two men, ages 33 and 27, for second-degree disor- derly conduct. 4:41 p.m. — A caller on the 90 block of Walnut Street, La Grande, reported fi nding a dog. The animal enforcement offi cer took the dog to the Blue Moun- tain Humane Association’s shelter, 3212 Highway 30, La Grande. 5:22 p.m. — A Summer- ville resident reported a bur- glary on the 500 block of Patton Street. A Union County sheriff’s deputy made contact and took information. 10:58 p.m. — La Grande police responded to a residence on the 2100 block of Maple Street to check out a non-communicative 911 call. Offi cers determined there was a domestic disturbance and resolved the situation. TUESDAY, FEB. 23 7:23 a.m. — A caller asked the Union County Sheriff’s Offi ce for a welfare check on someone on the 300 block of West Iowa Street, Union. A deputy responded, but the subject was not there. 10:40 a.m. — La Grande police received a complaint about a dog loose in traffi c at Sixth Street and N Avenue. The animal enforce- ment offi cer responded but could not catch the dog. 1:34 p.m. — A caller reported a stray dog on the 61800 block of Riddle Road, La Grande. RECENT OREGON STATE POLICE ACTIVITY Feb. 17, 7:04 p.m. — A trooper responded to the eastbound side of Highway 82 near milepost 27 for a one-vehicle crash. State police reported the trooper found the driver was impaired and refused to participate in sobriety tests. The trooper subsequently arrested Rayford Glenn Guilloy, 67, of Wallowa, for driving under the infl uence of intoxicants and driving with a suspended license. Guilloy also received a citation for refusing to take a breath test to estimate his alcohol level.
