Reading material is readily avail- able (plus crafts, music, movies and more), but not all libraries are open to the public. Be sure to call ahead or check online for current operat- ing hours. COOK MEMORIAL LIBRARY 2006 Fourth St., La Grande www.cookmemoriallibrary.org 541-962-1339 Cook Memorial Library in La Grande offers a takeout service. Carrie Bushman, children’s services librarian, said book bundle requests are popular too — books chosen to follow a certain theme. “That’s been really fun,” she said. Bushman maintains a virtual library page with storytime, videos, a craft and Toddler Time. The library’s website also offers a variety of free virtual entertain- ment and information for grown- ups, including music, movies and references. For those who enjoy stories but don’t have internet access, Cook Memorial offers “Dial-a-Story.” cookmemoriallibrary.com/screenshot Patrons of all ages simply dial a number (541-624-6339) to hear stories read aloud. Bushman said library staff, plus several guests, have recorded stories, and they are always looking for more contributions. “Anyone in the community can send us a recording,” she said. BAKER COUNTY LIBRARY 2400 Resort St., Baker City www.bakerlib.org 541-523-6419 The Baker County Library is open to patrons, although there is a cap of 15 visitors at a time and a time limit for browsing. Face cover- ings are required. The drive-thru is also available during the open hours. As for “takeout” items, Mak- ers Club kits are available every two weeks, and Storytime in a Bag is new at the fi rst of each month. These are both at the front desk and the drive-thru. A virtual storytime is released every Friday on the library’s Face- book page. Patrons are welcome to reserve books by phone or online. “They can put things on hold or call me and I’ll curate books for them,” said Missy Grammon, youth services coordinator. This month the library launched “Cuddle Up and Read” to encour- age everyone to read for at least 15 minutes a day in February. Raffl e prizes are available for all ages who complete the challenge. Reading aloud counts as time for both the parents and young children. “It’s encouraging parents to read to their children,” Goebel said. In the library’s collection, a grant helped her add $1,200 worth of new books for ages 0 to 12. And there are always movies. “Especially when people are stuck at home,” she said. “We have a huge selection.” 101 NE First St. www.enterpriseoregon.org (under the City Departments tab) 541-426-3906 The Enterprise Public Library is closed to the public, but porch pick- up is available.
