Call for artists: Puzzle show in April
■ Artwork sought that
explores the ‘puzzle’ theme
BAKER CITY — Baker City’s
Crossroads Carnegie Art Center
is encouraging artists to work on
a puzzle theme for April’s open
theme show, which opens April 2.
“Puzzle” can take on a variety of
meanings.
For inspiration, Crossroads has
included these defi nitions along
with the call for artists:
• “To cause uncertainty and
indecision in; perplex”
• “To clarify or solve by reason-
ing or study”
• “To be perplexed; to ponder
over a problem in order to solve or
understand it”
• “The condition of being per-
plexed; bewilderment”
Also, here are some synonyms
for “puzzle”: perplex, mystify, bewil-
der, confound, baffle.
The show is open to all mediums
and artists.
“The year 2020 was a puzzling
time and, moving forward in a new
direction, Crossroads would like
to exhibit the past reflections and
how it has influenced artists,” said
Crystal Rainwater, community art
director.
Artwork will be accepted on
Monday, March 29, from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Late entries will not be
accepted.
The opening reception will be
during the First Friday art walk
on April 2, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The “Puzzle” show runs from
April 2 through May 1.
Unsold artwork can be picked
up on Monday, May 3, from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m.
The entry fee is $20 for mem-
bers, or $25 for nonmembers.
A People’s Choice award of $100
will be selected during the opening
reception.
In addition to the entries, artists
must submit an image of each
item to be used to promote the
show on the website and to make
the art accessible to those who can-
not attend in person.

Guidelines
This show is open to professional
and amateur artists age 18 and
older. Artists may submit up to
three works of art.
Artists are invited to submit work with their interpretation of the “puzzle of 2020” to the spring open
show at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker City. The exhibit will run April 2-May 1.
