GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon
la grande artist earns
‘Hello from Lockdown’
people’s choice award
JOSEPH — La Grande artist
Denise Elizabeth Stone’s work
“When Chaos Becomes Creation”
earned the People’s Choice award
in the “Hello from Lockdown” show
at the Josephy Center for Arts and
Culture in Joseph.
The aim of the show was to give
a positive turn to the lockdown
brought about by the novel corona-
virus pandemic.
Stone’s winning entry is a mixed-
media collage of watercolor batik on
tissue paper with acrylics.
She earned $50 with the award.
In the spirit of 2020 and mak-
ing do with what’s available, Stone
told the Wallowa County Chieftain
that the lockdown inspired her to
work outside her typical medium
of batik. And she doesn’t normally
create collages.
“I used elements of batik,” she
said, “but the lockdown spurred me
into different ways of doing things.”
The art exhibit drew 36 submis-
sions from 19 artists. Although
many were Wallowa County resi-
dents, some hailed from Pendleton,
La Grande, Bend and Seattle.
Artwork included ceramics, oil
and acrylic paintings, sculptures,
textiles and photography.
“When Chaos Becomes Creation,”
a mixed-media collage by Denise
Elizabeth Stone, earned the People’s
Choice award at the Josephy Cen-
ter’s recent “Hello from Lockdown”
exhibit. View the display and other
virtual shows under the Exhibits tab
at www.josephy.org.
Votes for People’s Choice came
from those who viewed the art in
person and online.
The show ran for six weeks and
concluded Nov. 18. View it and
