Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, which oversees Northeast Oregon, is holding a virtual veterans town hall meet- ing Monday, Nov. 16, at 4:30 p.m. The Walla Walla VA leader- ship wants to stay connected with regional veterans and their communities about what’s happening at Veter- ans Affairs, according to a press release from the Walla Walla VA Medical Center, as well as to provide updates on the options of delivering health care to veterans, COVID-19 updates and to an- swer questions. (Crosland) Botham 1931-2020 • Cove Patricia “Patsy” Lee Botham, 89, of Cove, died Nov. 10 at a care facility in Baker City. A graveside ser- vice will be held Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Union Victo- rian Cemetery. Casual dress is preferred by the family. Attendees must wear a mask and prac- tice social dis- tancing to meet COVID-19 guidelines. The service will be live- streamed for those who cannot attend (go to www. lovelandfuneralchapel.com and click on the “Funeral Videos” button near the bottom of the home page just before 2 p.m.). Known as Patsy, she was born April 5, 1931, in Hot Lake, to Henry Mark and Myrle (Olsen) Crosland. She was raised in Union and graduated from Union High School. Her marriage to William Fite ended in divorce. She later married Gene Botham, and they were together 48 years. Patsy was employed with the Cove School Dis- trict as a secretary. She was also the secretary for the Cove Methodist Church for 28 years. Patsy had a love for cattle and the ranching atmosphere. She enjoyed working with cattle, knit- ting, spending time with her grandchildren, bowling, country music and watching football, basketball and baseball. Surviving relatives include her daughter, Kath- erine Braunstein of Cove; sister, Donna Jean Murray of Waitsburg, Washington; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two nieces and nephews. (Lester) Nice 1934-2020 • La Grande Marian Irlene Nice, 86, of La Grande, died Nov. 10 at her home. A grave- side service was held Nov. 13 at Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebra- tion Center. Marian was born Aug. 25, 1934, in Island City, to Dallas and Dorothy Fay (Hutchison) Lester. She graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1952. She married James Leonard Gibbs in June 1952, and they later divorced. In December 1984, she married Dale Nice. He passed away Sept. 13, 2008. Marian worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital and Grande Ronde Hospital, at Sweet’s Meats and at Emporium. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also was a member of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers and a local sewing club. Marian was a gifted painter, 4-H leader and played on local softball and volleyball teams. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, taking kids to the state fair and dancing at the senior center. Surviving relatives include her son, James Gibbs of Oregon City; daughter, Mary Trump of Gresham; siblings and their spouses, Bar- bara Marshall of La Grande, David and Shirley Lester of Island City, Shirley and Wayne Hill of Phoenix, Arizona, and Sherry and Johnnie Moore of Island City; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Nice, and children, Lynn McKinley Gibbs on Oct. 20, 1985, and Raedene Elizabeth Gibbs Tetterton on April 6, 2005. Billy Lewnes 1979-2020 • Formerly of La Grande Billy Lewnes, 41, for- merly of La Grande, died Sept. 29 in Portland. His cremated remains are at the St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro, near his mother’s home. Billy was born Feb. 25, 1979. He, his mother and his grandparents, Robert and Gracie Jurgensen, lived in La Grande for years, along with multiple cousins, aunts and uncles. Billy’s death was untimely and sudden and he is greatly missed by his family. Offi cers separated the parties and warned them for disorderly conduct. 11:35 p.m. — The Union County Sheriff’s Offi ce received a complaint about noise in the area of the 600 block of Caddie Street, Cove. A deputy respond- ed and determined the noise was fi reworks. The subjects said they would keep it down. FRIDAY, NOV. 13 12:33 a.m. — La Grande police responded to the area of Gekeler Lane and 16th Street on a call about a disturbance.
