Crossroads has offered ArtSpeak as an afterschool program for many years, funded by grants and private contributions. This year, the art center is using ArtSpeak funds to offer dance and art classes at a reduced cost. Pre-registration is required and classes will be fi lled on a fi rst- come, fi rst-served basis. To include more students, the instructors are offering several classes per week. Each child may choose one class to attend. Sessions are four weeks, and Crossroads asks students to dedi- cate themselves to attending every class session (unless they are ill). Wellness and temperature checks will be taken prior to each class. Face coverings and social distanc- ing are required also. To sign up for these classes, go to www.crossroads-arts.org or call 541-523-5369. Each four-class session costs $16. Crossroads is a nonprofi t re- gional art center that was founded in 1963. It is dedicated to the arts, serving the public through major exhibitions, art classes, lectures, workshops and outreach pro- grams. The center offers classes, open studios, workshops and lectures. Located in historic down- town Baker City, it houses a studio classroom, an extensive art library, pottery studio, sales gallery and exhibition gallery space. Gallery space Students need to wear comfort- able clothing. This class will utilize very basic concepts of dance and rhythm and simple choreography based on a fusion of ballet, modern and jazz dance techniques. The course will build strength, coordi- nation, and musicality. The exhibition gallery space is upstairs in a fully restored 1909 Carnegie Library with 96 feet of movable wall space, a large selec- tion of various sized pedestals and fl exible track lighting. The 440-square-foot gallery is a shared space between the Featured Artist exhibition space and the sales gal- lery. Great care is taken in display- ing all work to the best advantage. Art What we show Paul Hoelscher will lead “Art Class with Mr. Paul.” All supplies are provided for this open studio approach where Hoelscher helps young people make art in the way that most interests them. Instruction will be offered in a variety of media, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, conte and col- ored pencil. There are three options for ages and days of the week: • Grades 4-6: Mondays from 3:45-4:45 p.m.; Nov. 16, Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 • Grades 2-3: Wednesdays from 3:45 -4:45 p.m.; Nov. 18, Dec. 2, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 • Grades 4-6: Thursdays from 3:45-4:45 p.m.; Nov. 19, Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 The Featured Artist exhibitions represent the highest quality art by emerging, mid-career and established artists from the local, Eastern Oregon and larger Pacifi c Northwest regions. The center strives to show a broad and diverse range of visual art styles created in the last two years. Several months throughout the year are dedicated to open shows featuring the artwork of local and regional artists, limiting the number of months available for solo and group shows. Artists should specify their preference in being considered for a solo show or group show. Each artist will be evaluated individu- ally. The committee through the jury process may group together one show of two to four artists, based on complementary styles or mediums. Artist groups with a clear vision are highly valued and strongly encouraged to submit a show proposal for consideration. Artist groups must designate one artist as the coordinator of the group exhibit. Selection process Featured Artist exhibitions are determined by a volunteer com- mittee composed of artists working in a variety of mediums, art educa- tors and collectors in conjunction with the art director. The selection Still running unsupported Windows 7? We’ll help you avoid critical issues by installing Windows 10! takes place once per year. Artists who are accepted for a Featured Artist exhibit will have a two-year interval before their proposals are considered again. Artists are strongly encouraged to keep pricing consistent with websites and other sale sites. Submission guidelines The submission deadline is Feb. 8, 2021. Submissions must be de- livered or postmarked by 5 p.m. There is not a processing fee required for submissions; however, if an artist’s work is selected for a Featured Artist show, a current art center membership is required at time of acceptance.
