ART CENTER EAST
M aximize your home
time with macramé
By Lisa Lester Kelly

LA GRANDE — Many
of us at one time or another
learned to macramé. Winter
is coming fast and you’ll
likely be spending even
more time at home, present-
ing a perfect opportunity to
renew your acquaintance
with knot-tying skills — or
take up macramé for the
first time.
Art Center East, La
Grande, is again open to
the public and offering both
on-site and virtual classes.
In November, teaching artist
Katie Hall is leading two
in-person macramé classes

and a self-taught macrame artist.
“Macramé & Mimosas” is
a make-and-take class on Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 10 a.m. In this
two-hour workshop participants will learn the basics of macramé and
leave with their own handmade plant hanger. And, yes: there will be mi-
mosas. This class is for age 21 and older and costs $30 for ACE members
and $40 for non-members.
The following Saturday, Nov. 21, those who have taken “Macramé & Mi-
mosas” or have experience with knot-tying are invited to come learn more
advanced macramé techniques in order to create their own wall hanging.
“Modern Macramé” runs from noon to 4 p.m. and is for age 18 and older.
Cost is $47 for art center members and $56 for non-members.
Preregistration is required. To sign up classes, go to www.artcentereast.
