The event is free and open to the public and will include prizes, treats (for dogs and people), an obstacle course and a costume contest. Prizes will be given to the best dressed dog as well as the best coordinated costume between dog and owner. Spectators are welcome. Human masks are required. Pandemic can’t stop Halloween fun LA GRANDE — Traditional trick-or-treating is out this year, so La Grande Parks & Rec is throwing a Drive-thru Halloween Party. On Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. at Riverside Park, the free event will feature a best decorated car contest, carnival toss games (from inside the car), prizes, music, a Jack-o’-lantern Contest (submis- sions must be entered before the event and will be on display at the park — more details are available on Facebook) and, of course, candy. www.crossroads-arts.org Got a beef with turkey? COVE — The Cove Sportsman Club is hosting its annual Turkey Shoot Sunday, Oct. 18. The event is open to the public and there will be games for non-shooters. Activities begin at 9 a.m., and lunch will be served starting at 11 a.m. The Cove Sportsman Club is on the highway on the south edge of town. Please bring your mask for when social distancing is not possible. All aboard Sumpter Halloween trains SUMPTER — Sumpter Valley Railroad is planning several days of “short runs” for the Halloween season. Halloween trains will depart from the Sumpter Station Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and passengers may visit the “haunted” Sumpter Dredge. On Oct. 24, the trains will leave at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. On these trips, passen- gers may tour the haunted dredge and also have the opportunity to gather goodies at the annual trunk- or-treat.
