Neighbors Together food
distribution site changes
ISLAND CITY — Neigh-
bors Together of Union
County is now distributing
its weekly Fresh Alliance and
monthly food pantry from
the parking lot of Mountain
Life Church, 10700 S. Walton
Road, behind Walmart in
Island City. Social distancing
parameters are in place and
face coverings are requested
according to state guidelines.
Fresh Alliance is available
every Tuesday morning,
offering fresh foods that
have been donated by
Walmart and Safeway, such
as produce, berries, milk,
eggs, juice, bakery items and
meats. This service is open to
all. The time varies, depend-
ing on when the goods show
up from local vendors. Bring
your own shopping bag and
arrive around 8 a.m.
On the last Saturday of the
month, the La Grande Food
Pantry opens between 7 a.m.
and 7:30 a.m. and closes at
10 a.m. On holiday week-
ends, the food pantry will be
held a week early.

SALEM — Hunter edu-
cation classes in Oregon
have resumed with safety
measures in place to pro-
tect students and volunteer
instructors. For the time
being, students can choose
to take a conventional class,
or fi nish most of the class
independently with a work-
book or online plus attend
a fi eld day. This exception
is only for the 2020 hunting
season.
A fi eld day is scheduled
for Aug. 15 from 8 a.m. to
3 p.m. at the Ladd Marsh
Wildlife Area, 59116 Pierce
Road, La Grande. Prior
to the fi eld day, students
must complete an online
course or workbook and
bring proof of completion.
There will be a 60-ques-
tion written exam. The
instructor will be Darren
Hendrickson. Students are
asked to bring their own
face covering, which must
be worn during COVID-19
restrictions.

All ODFW outdoor edu-
cation classes were canceled
in March due to the pan-
demic, including hunter edu-
cation, which is required to
hunt in Oregon for ages 17
and younger. Safety measures
include restricting class size
to 25 students/parents and
maintaining social distancing
except during those moments
when closer distance is
needed to safely handle fi re-
arms. Hand sanitizer will be
available for everyone and
fi rearms and any other shared
materials will be wiped down
before being handled by a
new student.

2:14 p.m. — An Elgin resident
on the 800 block of North 15th
Avenue reported harassment. A
Union County sheriff’s depu-
ty contacted the person and
explained options.
6:55 p.m. — Three dogs on
the loose on the 1500 block of
Pine Street, La Grande, prompt-
ed a complaint. An offi cer was
not able to catch the dogs.
9:57 p.m. — The Union Coun-
ty Sheriff’s Offi ce received a
report of vandalism to property
on the 700 block of East Fulton
Street, Union. A deputy planned
to follow up.
11:15 p.m. — La Grande po-
lice responded to Ninth Street
and N Avenue on a complaint
about a loud party. An offi cer
counseled the people involved.
7:26 a.m. — La Grande police
responded to the 2200 block of
Adams Avenue on a report of a
disturbance. Offi cers trespassed
one person from the property.
12:35 p.m. — A Summerville
resident reported her horses
missing and she would call back
if she could not fi nd them.
3:22 p.m. — A caller reported
someone was shooting in an
unsafe manner at Wolf Creek
Reservoir, North Powder. A
Union County sheriff’s depu-
ty responded and found the
shooter was being safe and not
putting anyone in danger.
6:26 p.m. — A caller reported
a domestic disturbance in Elgin.
A Union County sheriff’s deputy
arrived and found the parties
had already separated.
9:08 p.m. — La Grande police
responded to the 2300 block
of Spruce Street on a report
of a fi ght. Offi cers warned the
people involved for disorderly
conduct.
