“Movie: In Secret”
In 1860s Paris, a repressed young woman (Elizabeth
Olsen) is trapped into a loveless marriage to her sickly
cousin (Tom Felton) by her domineering aunt (Jessica
Lange) in this 2013 crime drama from director Charlie
Stratton (“Seacole”). Oscar Isaac, Shirley Henderson
and Matt Lucas are also in the talented cast.
“Movie: A Better Life”
From “About a Boy” to “The Golden Compass,” Chris
Weitz has shown great variety in his directing career,
and he continues on that path with this 2011 drama.
A gardener (Demian Bechir) in East Los Angeles does
his best to give his son (Jose Julian) more options in
life than he’s had himself, and an unexpected theft —
and their shared response to it — has quite a bonding
effect. Bechir earned a best actor Oscar nod for his
touching performance.
