The party begins at 7 p.m. A cover charge of $15 includes food, the band and a champagne toast. The “LT,” as owner Peter Ferre and many others call it, holds a special place in the hearts and minds of locals, especially to Justin and Grace Zollman Hay, who met there at a New Year’s Eve party in 2016. “That’s where I met my future husband,” Grace recalled. She said Justin was playing with the band Good Question that night. “We just happened to sit at the same table. We had mutual friends,” she said. “We started talk- A New Year’s Eve party will be held at the Lostine Tavern. The historic building and longtime hangout is now open for special events. ing. The rest is history.” Part of that history is they married May 26 this year, bought a cabin up the Lostine Canyon and are expecting their fi rst child in March. When they met, Justin was attending the Oregon State Police Academy. He now works for Ferre said at this year’s party there will be dancing to the tunes of Casey Kiser and the Jakewalk Saints, a trio of three young local men. “They’re really passionate about their music,” he said. Two members of the group are moving to Nashville to pursue careers in music, so this may be the last time for awhile that locals will be able to hear them. “But I hope not,” Ferre added. Next week’s bash will be LT’s second-annual New Year’s Eve Formal. The defi nition of “formal” is loose, though. According to a press release, formal attire may be thrifty or funny. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Sanctuary Studio, a not-for-profi t yoga/meditation and wellness center. Ferre operated the tavern until late summer 2016, when it was remodeled and transitioned to a special event venue. He said the LT has been hosting about a dozen such occasions a year. “We have parties, weddings, an- niversaries, and we’ve even had a funeral there,” he said. The LT is located at 125 High- way 82. Grace’s pregnancy doesn’t neces- sarily mean they won’t show up again this year. “We may make an appearance,” she said. The LT is in a historic building that fi rst served as a pharmacy and a doctor’s offi ce in 1902. It later housed a soda fountain. By the 1940s, it was a tavern and local hangout. Since then, according to Ferre, it has also housed the fi rst farm-to-table eating establishment in Eastern Oregon. “The LT is a pretty special place,” Grace said. “Peter’s done a really good job of remodeling.” Winter Wear Starting Dec. 9th STORE CLOSING!!! 50% Filson OFF EVERYTHING Sorel Bear Paw 2700 Bearco Loop La Grande 541-963-8898 (except Christmas Decorations) E VERYTHING MUST GO Coffee Shop Tables and Chairs, Displays and Cases, Appliances , Espresso Machine, And Grinders, VIntage and Designer Clothing, Scarves, Hats, Shoes, Sweaters, Jewelry, Artwork, Lamps, Dishes, Glasses, Bags, Book- shelves, Tables, Specialty Items and One of a Kind Pieces, Entire inventory and all fixtures 6:30-4:00 M-F • 8-3:00 Sat.
