annual Turkey Trot
BAKER CITY — Baker City’s
Turkey Trot 5K run/walk to feed
the hungry will be held Thanks-
giving Day. Registration begins at
Kicks, 1801 Main St., at 7:30 a.m.,
and the race is at 9 a.m. Entry
is $15. Prizes will be awarded in
several categories, including best
costumes.
Learn calligraphy at
Crossroads
BAKER CITY — Ginger Rem-
bold will teach a calligraphy class
Dec. 5 at Crossroads Carnegie Art
Center, 2020 Auburn, Baker City,
from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. No experience
is necessary. Cost is $15 for mem-
bers or $22.50 for nonmembers.
There is also a $5 supply fee for two
calligraphy pens that participants

Register by Dec. 5 for
ceramic lantern workshop
BAKER CITY — A ceramic
lantern workshop is set for Dec. 9
and Dec. 16 at Crossroads Carnegie
Art Center, 2020 Auburn, Baker
City. Shannon Hunt Gray will lead
the sessions, which meet at 5:30
p.m. No experience is necessary.
Finished lanterns will be ready by
Dec. 20. Cost is $36 for members
or $54 for nonmembers. There is
also a $5 fee to cover clay and firing
costs. Students must register by
Dec. 5: call 541-523-5369 or go to
crossroads-arts.org.
Saturday is Family Day from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is a can of
food or an unwrapped toy. In addi-
tion to seeing the decorated trees,
children can get photos with Santa
thanks to the Kiwanis Club ($10
per setting and includes two 5x7 or
three 4x6 prints) and create art at
the Make It and Take It craft area
organized by Crossroads Carnegie
Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2:30
p.m. ($5 to make five crafts).
Trio from Lewiston to
perform at Stubborn Mule
JOSEPH — Stubborn Mule,
104 S. Main St., Joseph, will host
live music by Shania Rales, Aaron
Crutti & Brian Lesko on Nov. 30
beginning at 9 p.m. The trio hails
from Lewiston, Idaho.
Holiday market planned
at Conference Center
LA GRANDE — The ESA-Delta
Epsilon Holiday Market is planned
for Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
at the Blue Mountain Conference
Center, 404 12th St., La Grande.
Santa arrives at 10 a.m.
The annual market will feature
a variety of crafts and homemade
items, snacks and food. Admission
is canned food or packaged diapers,
to be donated to the DHS Emer-
gency Food Bank.

Bazaar is Saturday
LA GRANDE — The fourth-
annual Union County 4-H Holiday
Bazaar will be open from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. Nov. 30 in the 4-H Building
at the Union County Fairgrounds
in La Grande. There will be break-
fast and lunch items available.
Candy Cane Christmas
Bazaar held two days
ENTERPRISE — The Candy
Cane Christmas Bazaar will be
open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 29
and 30 in the Tomas Conference
Room at 309 S. River St., Enter-
prise. The bazaar features a variety
of crafts plus free cookies and cider.

presents concert
Boogie down to hq for
electric-acoustic funk
LA GRANDE — “Come for the
sax, the bone, the whirling percus-
sion, and to let your hair down and
have a good time,” say organizers
of the upcoming performance by
Good Sax — a two-man funk band
from Eastern Oregon — Dec. 6 at
hq, 112 Depot St., La Grande. The
LA GRANDE — Community
Band Northeast will perform a free
concert Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in
McKenzie Theatre, in Eastern
Oregon University’s Loso Hall, La
Grande.
The band, made up of communi-
ty members and directed by Keith
Van Vickle, is based in La Grande
but includes musicians from Wal-
lowa and Baker counties. Perform-
ers range in age from middle school
students to nonagenarians.

Festival of Trees returns
to Baker City
BAKER CITY — The Baker City
Festival of Trees is Dec. 5-7 at the
Community Event Center, 2600
East St. This fundraiser for the
Saint Alphonsus Foundation sup-
ports the hospital in Baker City.
A “Preview Among the Trees”
is planned for 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Thursday. Admission is $20. The
evening includes appetizers, a no-
host bar and a silent auction. The
Friday night gala is sold out.
The band will debut three pieces
purchased with a grant from the
Wildhorse Foundation: “Slippery
Hank” featuring the trombones,
“Hennepin County Dawn (Shrouds
of Snow)” and a beautiful arrange-
ment of “Autumn Leaves.” The
program will also include marches
and two pieces to herald the holi-
day season.
