Eagle Cap Excursion Train & the Friends of the Joseph Branch
www.eaglecaptrainrides.com
or call the Elgin Depot, 541.437.3652
The train operates out of the Elgin Depot, kicking off the season with
the popular Mother’s Day Brunch and culminating with the Season’s
Bounty Train, late in October. 14 to 19 rides are typical for a season. The
Friends of the Joseph Branch is a 501c-3 non-profit organization, creat-
ed in 2003 to gather and maintain the history of the railroad and assist
with making enjoyment of the line available to the public. Having pro-
vided volunteer help for the excursion train since it began operations
in 2004, the Friends took over managing the excursion business for the
Wallowa Union Railroad Authority in 2013 and have been running it
successfully since then. Volunteer car hosts, conductors and licensed
engineers must be members of the Friends. Other volunteer activities
include refurbishing the cars and helping with maintenance. The board
of directors welcomes the public to their monthly meetings and invites
people to volunteer to be a part of the fun and rewarding endeavor.
