The crew arrives on Friday and will visit local artists and members of the arts community throughout the weekend. On Sunday, the film crew and Travel Baker County will host a public meet and greet from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Powder River Pavilion in Geiser Pollman Park. All community members are invited to share their stories and talk about the arts with Americart2019. Community members can also sign the Ameri- cart2019 14-foot art canvas that has been traveling with the film crew. The canvas will be unveiled at the end of filming in Sonoma County, California. Baker City is one of 10 com- munities invited to participate in the project. Americart2019 is produced in partnership with the U.S. Cultural & Heritage Marketing Council. Mules and a yodeling Texan ENTERPRISE — Hells Canyon Mule Days will celebrate mules and mule skinners on the weekend after Labor Day, Sept. 6-8. From its humble beginnings in 1981, the annual event now draws mule and donkey owners — and spectators intrigued by this long-eared equine — from all over the West. The three-day show includes events and classes for every age and skill level plus mule and horse sales, a non-motorized parade, quilt show, exhibits and Western art, a cowboy poets gath- ering and pit BBQ. The action takes place at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds in Enterprise. The admission fee is good for all three days: $10 adults, $8 seniors, $3 age 7-12. A one-day pass is $5 for adults and seniors and $2 for youth. For full details on the 2019 event, view or download the program at www. hellscanyonmuledays.com. Wallowa County native Julie Kooch is the 2019 Grand Mar- shal. Kooch has deep Wallowa County roots going back to her grandparents. She was raised on the family ranch in the Joseph Creek Canyon and later taught in the Enterprise school for more than 30 years. Kooch has been part of Hells Canyon Mule Days since the early days and now serves as the official greeter at the main entrance gate. A notable part of Mule Days is the Max Walker Memorial Cow- boy Gathering on Friday at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds’ indoor arena. See Mule Days/Page 6
