New squat racks in the Imbler High School weight room were assembled on Thursday.

to act, and they approved it
right away,” she said.
The school district
ended up putting forth about
$10,000 for the project, which
also received $7,475 from
the Wildhorse Foundation.
Grande Ronde Hospital
added a $1,000 donation,
Haddock said, and the Im-
bler Parent Action Commit-
tee covered the remaining
$600.
“The results of all those
people chipping in to get us
new equipment is what you
see upstairs,” Imber Athletic
Director Mike Mills said.
The funds resulted in the
purchase of several pieces
of equipment and weight
sets, including new squat
racks, stationary bicycles,
an elliptical, a row machine,
glute/hamstring machines,
dip stations and dumbbells
up to 100 pounds, to name
a few.
“It’s safe,” Haddock said.
“It’s all up to snuff. There
is nothing that is going to
break on a kid that’s going
to put them in danger. That
was a big thing. You want to
have safe equipment.”
He anticipates his weights
classes will see a boost,
noting as an example he cur-
rently has about 20 students
signed up for the middle
school class.
“My class is going to be
pretty full,” he said.
Athletic teams will also
take advantage of the new
equipment.
“Anytime you can have
stronger athletes competing,
it’s going to be better for your
program,” Lakey-Campbell
said.
Mills added he heard some
buzz from students about it
during school registration.
“Hopefully our kids can
get excited. There aren’t too
many exercise or fi tness
rooms (in Imbler) that can
provide this,” he said.
There’s hope, too, that the
weight room’s use can ex-
pand beyond Imbler students
and athletes, as avenues are
under consideration to open
it for local emergency medi-
cal responders.
“We wanted to look at
partnering with the fi re
department (and see) if we
can help them out and get
some physical training,” the
superintendent said.
Haddock added he was
grateful for the wide range
of support to improve the
weight room.
“We’re super fortunate
that our school district cares
enough to give us a good
chunk for an upgrade, (and)
when you look at all the suc-
cess stories and the places
and different things Wild-
horse has donated to, we’re
fortunate to have an entity
like that that’s willing and
gracious to give,” he said.
