nomics Club held a Christmas
party recently at the home of
Mrs. Gordon Griffith. The club
members had an exchange of gifts.
They installed new officers for
the new year: chairman, Bessie
Smith; vice-chairman, Bernice
McCanse: secretary, Edith Uor
ham: treasurer. Celesta Nice: pro
gram chairman, Tressie McClure.
The Busy Stitchers 4-H Sewing
Club he'd th ir first meeting
at the home of their leader, Mrs.
Gordon Griffith. The members
elected new officers: president.
Norma Chamberlain: vice-p.esi-
dent, Carol Glenn; secretary, Don
na Murdoch: news reporter, Lu
cinda Blais. For entertainment,
they made animals out of marsh
mallows. There was a taffy pull at their
Dec. 21 meeting, held at the
Griffith home.
In Baker Hospital
The elderly Mrs. Lois M. John
son broke her hip recently when
she fell in her home. She was
taken to the St Elizabeth hospital,
Baker, where she received medical
treatment.
Mrs. Tom Boyd was hostess to
the Baker Bridge Club meeting.
Mr.' and Mrs. John Murdoch and
children traveled to Boise to
Christmas shop. Gary Erwin at
tended the service station while
they were gone.
The annual senior semi-formal
Christmas ball was held Dec. 18 in
the gym.
Pvt. Jack Teel, Fort Lewis, visit.
ed several days recently at the
Henry McClure home. Toel was
on his way home to Texas for a
visit before being sent to Germany.
Haart Attack
Floyd Willis suffered a heart
attacked recently at his home. He
was taken to a La Grande hos
pital. Mrs. Edna Turner, Hepner,
visited recently with her sister.
Mrs. Vida Noble.
Willard Fo.dice drove the bus
which took the 18 basketball boys
to the Boardman game. The
Badgers played two games. Kay
Griffith and Rosanne Montgomery
traveled by car to Boardman with
the Marvin Vancils.
Mrs. Kenneth Fordice traveled
to Ontario recently with her fath-r,
Emery Cox, and her sister, Mrs.
Betty Vanderwa'l, where they
Christmas shopped.
Albert Harrison and Gordon
Gorham have been traveling to La
Grande to receive dental treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Phillips and
Ed Tall, Haines, visited recently
with Mrs. Ann Taylor and Mrs.
Matts Nice. -

Frank Gulicks.

a quarrel with my mother-in-law

teen pint-sized inmates crawled to
freedom through an 11-inch wide
air conditioning vent Saturday.
Officials said their fellow inmates

the meeting, there was a Christ
mas program, a tree, and treats
from Santa for the children.
A new, name
for
an old firm
General petroleum is changing its name January 1
to mobil oil company to match its products.
The man you know as a "G. P. man" will be a Mobil man on January 1.
He will do his part to see that the associations you value
under the old name will continue under the new.'
General Petroleum and other long-time members of the Mobil family
arc combining to build a stronger nationwide company.
It will serve customers from coast to coast under the Mobil name. '
