Cattle Import Health Checks Stiffer requirments for cattle entering the state are now being enforced by the Oregon Depart ment of Agriculture. All out-of-state animals enter ing Oregon stockyards for other than slaughter purposes must be health-tested in the first yard, un less they have met full health requirments prior to entry. Oregon will, however, accept cattle from clean herds in modi lied certified area if they are accompanied by either an official health certificate or written evi dence of such clean status by an authorized official of the state of origin. Authorized officials include brand inspectors, livestock officers and veterinarians. Oregon will not accent swine which have been vaccinated with virulent live hog cholera virus. Also, horses must have health cer tificates and all show animals must meet ail health requirments. The new regulations represent major changes in amendments to Oregon's livestock importation re gulations. The changes were sign ed in November. SEEKS NEW LAW WASHINGTON 'UI'D Sen. "Dr. Biggs is a psychoanalyst and a likely catch if he can find a woman who rarely opens her mouth!" Predict New Records For U.S. Economy Throughout Next Year By ELMER C. WALZER UPI Staff Writer NEW YORK HIPII The nation's economy and the stock market will set new records in I960 if the experts' prophecies come true. Daily now the predictions are coming in. None believe the steel strike broke the back of the re covery movement. The belief is the strike stretched out the rise which now seems to the prophets likely to run through 1960 at least. Standard it Poor's sees a gross National Product in 1960 of $500 billion or higher. That figure would compare with an esti mated $480 for 1959 and would represent a rise of 4,2 per cent, a rise greater than the normal growth rate. Standard looks for its industrial index of 425 stocks to move be tween 57-58 and the upper 60s. Currently the index is around 62 The high this year a record- was 65.32 and the low was 57.02 The upper 60s would mean a new top. Market Boom Possible This year's stock market move ment has been restrained, Stand ard says. It currently is up 7.6 per cent. Last year the market lose 36.3 per cent in the indus trial index. A broader movement is looked for in 1960. Earnings on the index are es timated between $4 and $4.15 for I960 and if they are realized it will be the most prosperous yea oii record. Dividends are expect ed to rise to around $2.25 on the index against $2 indicated for 1959. On this basis, says the statisti cal agency, industrial stocks now around 62 in the industrial index are selling at 15 times next year's estimated earnings. ; DAILY XV LG 2KREM m KXLY jr KHQ TV T1 TV O TV TUESDAY 6:Mil jtii-k Oriiw M';r;i Vew Sports Movie ICont.) i:i: " Pouk TMn-arda Front Page 6:30 Newnbent Amos n' Andy " 6:4.'. Almost Never WASHINGTON UPP The Air Force hastily assured irate taxpayers today it really didn't fly those beautiful Folies Ber geres girls from Paris to Las Vegas so they could stage "the nudest show on earth." United Press International re ported from Paris Nov. 26 that "les girls" from the famed Folies crowded into an Air France super-constellation for a trip to the United States and an engagement at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas. Impresario Tonny Azzi was quoted as saying the lovelies were going to put on the "classiest nude show America will ever have been." Somewhere along the line, somehow, some way, the girls' airline Air France, became con fused with the Air Force and at least one newspaper reported that the Air Force was transporting the classy lassies. Some congressmen demanded to know just how wild was that wild blue yonder. Panicky officers quickly checked with Paris They were relieved to find that Air France, and not the Air Force, was in the girl-shipping business. . This." savs Standard, "is not an excessive valuation, and the price-earnings ratio could go higher on the wings of bullish business news in the forepart of the year. The prospect of a level ing of earnings after the initial upsurge, however, may act to restrain enthusiasm." Stock Price Factors Other reasons for restraint are given as the continuing tight money policy and the increased investment apnea) of bonds. The spread of yields between stocks and bonds has widened substan tially. But Standard doesn't rule out a somewhat higher level of stock prices for two reasons: 1. A prospective average increase of 12'i per cent in dividend pay ments next year, which would lilt stock yields appreciably in te-ms of current prices, and 2. The promise of higher earnings and dividends eventually, based on strong growth trends inherent in the economy. Also it is noted that institutions have a considerable reserve of slock purchasing power which could be shifted from short-term debt holdings to stocks on a selective basis when "the time seems right." On the basis of a $500 billion GNP, Standa 'd plots personal in come at $395 billion up 4.2 per ceit from 1959 and disposable income at $347 billion, a gain of 4 per cent. Personal saving is eK-cted to rise 2.1 per cent to $24 billion. Personal consumption expendi tures are expected to reach $323 billion, up 4 1 per cent. Of these $45.5 billion are expected to be speit tn duranle goods, a rise of 58 per cent: $151.5 billion on non-durable goods, a rise of 2.9 per cent, and $126 billion on ser vices, a rise of S per cent.
