La Grande, became the bride of Franklin Ho3rd Williams, son of Mrs. Percy Williams, Atlanta, Cia., during a double ring cere mony Nov. 21. The Rev. Louis M. Samson per formed the rites in the First Presbyterian Church of I.a' Grande. Two baskets of fall shad es of pom pom chrysanthemums and oak leaves decorated the church., , Mrs. Jack Welder was the or ganist and Howard Anderson, soloist, singing "Because" and "The lord's Prayer." The bride was given in mar riaee by her uncle, Thomas Murray, Medical Springs. Her gown was floor length, imported. French thantilly lace with chap el train. Handmade roses adorn cd the back of the gown. The stbrina neckline is embroidered with seed pearls and sequins. Her eil was French illusion held by a cap of seed pearls and sequins with scallops and drop pearls. She also had a lucky half penny in her slipper, this was given her by a friend in Cambridge, Eng gland. Her bridal bouquet was a cascade of white and yellow i oses. Mrs. Lowell Chandler, Spokane, sister of the bride, was the ma tron of honor. She wore a bal lerina length dress of taffeta, moss green with embroidered trim. She carried an oval shap ed bouquet of fall shades of crysanthemums and oak leaves. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Robert Kronquist, Oswego and Miss Dor othy Roihe, Portland. They were dressed like the matron except their dresses were copper color ed. They carried bouquets also matching the matron of honor . Vickie and Karen Chandler, Spokane, nieces of the bride, were the f lower girls. They wore yellow taffeta dresses and bands of yellow flowers in their hair. Mrs. Don Haller. Ontario, and Mrs. Larry Overherg, Portland, were the candlelighters. They were dressed in coppertone dresses. A. B. Olson was the best man to the groom. Robert Kronquist, 0-9rtno. William F. Lillis, Baker, anflKdgar Byerley, Suujiuervillo, were the ushers. ..Xhe mother of the bride chose tq wear a powder blue afternoon trcss with a corsage of pink roes. "The reception was held in the church parlor, also decorated with fall flowers. Dick Lyman, Elgin, played background music during the reception. Mrs. Raymond Weber, Amity vili, N. Y., sister of the groom, served the wedding cake. Mrs. A B. Olson poured coffee, and William Roche served at the punch bowl. -Mrs. Ed Brog had charge of the guest book and Mrs. Howard Pohrman, both of Portland, were in charge of gifts. The bride chose for her travel ing a brown suit with brown ac cessories and a corsage of a white orchid. The couple honey mooned at Lake Tahoe. The ncwlyweds are now at home at the Stilwell apartments iriLa Grande. The bride is a mitfuate of La Grande High School and attended Eastern Oregon College. She now works in the Social Security Administra tion office. The groom attended school in Bcllmore, N.Y., prior to entering the Navy. He is now stationed here as a Navy rccruit- y- . Oregon. Pythian Sisters will meet in the KP hall at 8 p.m. Friday. Bus iness events of the evening will include reopening of nominations and election of officers for the coming year. All members please try to attend. Odd Fellow Ledge 16, La Grande, will meet Friday at 8 p. :n. in their hall. Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters will hold another card porty at the KP hall, Saturday evening at 8 o'clock. The public is invited. Union County Shrine Auxiliary will hold th"ir annual Christmas dinner, Friday at 6:30 p.m., in the Masonic hall, for members and families. Bring table; service and potluck dish. Mr. and Mrs. Cat Wright, Rt. 1, La Grande, have returned from Portland where they spent the Thanksgiving holidays with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick O' Connor. AAUWToHear Guest Speaker Gopal Joardar, ncted interna tionalist, will speak on "India as a World Power" at the American Association of University , Wo men meeting on Saturday. ' This is one of several speak ing engagements Dr. Joardar will have in the Northwest. Dr. Joar- der is a native of India and was a follower of Mahatma Ghandi and later a member of Paneit Nehru's staff. He became an Am erican citizen a few years ago. The AAUW meeting will be at 1:15 p.m. in the Ackerman Aud itorium. Guests are welcome. 56th Annual World Mission Appeal Begins Locally The 56th Annual World Mission Appeal, sponsored by the La Grande and Cove Seventh-Day Ad venlist churches opens this week with solicitation of business houses and house-to-house calls accom panied by Christmas Carolers. Leading the volunteer workers participating in the ifour-weeki city wide drive is Leonard Spears Sr., church home missions di rector. The goal here is $1,125. Funds will go toward extending we'farc, disaster aid, and educa tional services at home as well as widespread medical, welfare, and educational ministry in 185 lands abroad. On a world basis. Volunteer Ad- ventist workers in 1958 gave 6,- 366,8114 hours in welfare services lo 6.286.717 persons. More than $1.4(10.000 in cash, some 5.000.000 articles of clothing, and 2.44!i,7 food baskets were contributed in a relief program conservatively va'ucd -at $26,278,620. Approxi mately 50 per cent of this aid was given in North America. Seventh-day Adventists members themselves contributed a large amount last year toward the sup port of their world church pro gram, in addition to welfare activities.
